29. Nick Ward
Nick
Ward joined QPR in June 2006 from Australian side Perth Glory.
Ward
arrived with a big reputation after being named by FIFA as one of the young players
to watch. He just missed out on a place in the World Cup squad. Ward
is 20 years old and a attacking midfield player, his aim for his first season
was to score 10 goals and he got off to a decent start. He impressed in his debut
against Burnley before scoring his first goal for the club against Southend.
It was an open goal tap in after good work by Ray Jones but it was good to see
a midfield player getting beyond the forwards to score a goal. The
change in pace from the A League to the Championship began to tell as Ward struggled
to maintain his form over the next few games and since Gary Waddock has left Ward
has found it difficult to hold down a regular place in the side. Ward
hasn't been helped by being played out of position on the right wing and the player
has shown enough glimpses of ability to suggest he can still be a success at Loftus
Road. He finished the season on loan to League one side Brighton.
