32. Ugo Ukah
After a successful trial period with the club, Ian Holloway has offered a three-year
deal to Nigerian defender Ugo Ukah making him Ranger's fifth signing of the summer.
Ukah appeared in all of Ranger's first couple of pre season games
and was impressive at both right back and as a central defender. The big defender
is quick and strong and his rampaging runs forward from right back gave the team
an added dimension. He's now signed a three-year deal and will be looking to break
into the first team as soon as possible. The deal came about after
Ukah's previous club Reggina ran into financial problems in Italy. Ukah was ironically
sharing a room with Dan Shittu on a Nigerian tour of London when he got the call
from Gianni Paladini to join QPR on trial, which he gratefully accepted. Paladini
had become aware of the 21 year old after he impressed in an under 21 tournament
in Italy and Rangers beat off competition from several Italian clubs including
Parma to get their man. The young defender was in buoyant mooed
when he had the following to say on the official QPR web site: "I enjoyed my
time in Ibiza and to play in the final was amazing. The players showed great team
spirit to win that game and I hope we can show that in the league." "I'm
only 21 and have been away with Nigeria and I hope to play in the Olympics but
my priority is QPR. Everyday in training I have to give my blood and improve and
Ian Holloway seems to like that."
