9. Dean Sturridge
Dean
Sturridge joined QPR on a free transfer from Wolves in March 2005.
Sturridge
is a proven goalscorer having been a big success in the Premiership with Derby
in the past. His pace, strength and finishing made him a popular striker at Derby
and his goals helped them stay in that division for several seasons. He
was once linked with a move to Arsenal with Arsene Wenger seeing him as the long-term
replacement for Ian Wright but injuries and the emergence f Thierry Henry ended
that move. Sturridge continued to score goals in the Premiership
when he moved on to Leicester. His last club was Wolves where his goals helped
them win promotion to the Premiership but an injury-ravaged season last year meant
he didn't get many opportunities to prove himself at the highest level again.
Injuries again this season have restricted his chances so
a move to QPR was seen as the perfect one to resurrect his career. Sturridge
has good pace and at 31 still has a few years left in him so should be a good
signing for the club. He made his debut as a second half substitue in the win
over Rotherham United in March 2005.
