Rangers started
with a few changes to Saturday's team. With Peacock, Maddix, Morrow,
Kiwomya and Ready all out it was a make shift team with Plummer
and Gallen recalled to the team. Rangers started well with Darlington
looking a threat on the wing and it wasn't long before Rangers
got in front.
A nice build
up saw Breackers cross met by Rob Steiner who headed into the
bottom corner which prompted the silly pig bag dance that I love
so much. My mate who came with me said we would win 3-1 at the
start and it was looking like a lot more than one soon after.
Sheffield
United defended like blind schoolboys, as Wardley was on hand
to smash home his seventh of the season from the edge of the area.
From here on it was all over. Rangers played some nice stuff including
one brilliant move between Breacker, Steiner and Gallen which
almost saw Breacker score but his cross shot was saved.
Matthew Rose
had a long range effort fly wide and Kevin Gallen was impressing
with his nice passes and crosses. Paul Murray was spraying the
ball about well and back in defence Matthew Rose, Darlington,
Breacker, Baraclough and Plummer were superb.
Bara was looking
very skilful whilst Breacker gave his best performance for a long
time using all of his experience to produce a magnificent display
that I didn't think he had in him.
For United,
Marcus Bent was working very hard up front but the lack of support
from midfield meant that they were reduced to a few long range
efforts and some set plays.
The second
half began as the first did with Rob Steiner leading the line
well and Paul Murray and Wardley breaking well from midfield.
It was on the wings were we were causing problems with Breacker
and Darlington. Darlington went on another great run using his
skill and pace to hold off four players, his accurate cross found
Gallen with his back to goal. His turn and shot was well saved
by the keeper but Breacker was on hand to tuck home the rebound
for the killer goal.
From here
Rangers should have gone on to get a few more but seemed happy
to sit back and hold onto the ball. Rangers did keep the ball
well though which was a huge improvement on recent matches at
home where we have had to sit back and hang on no matter what
the score. George Kulscar was doing well breaking up the Sheffield
attacks and allowing Murray and Wardley to get forward.
Gallen began
to fade after 60 minutes, his range of passing had been superb
but he seemed to tire along with a few others carrying knocks.
Rose continued to be here, there and everywhere in a superb display
whilst carrying an injury. Francis made a few changes bringing
on Rowland and Weare for Murray and Steiner. Rowland seemed to
be a strange choice as Langley could have shined against a very
poor Sheffield United.
Rowland almost
made a few chances for Weare but didn't seem to on the same wavelength
and Weare appeared to struggle against the big defence. With Rangers
sitting back it seemed inevitable that we would concede and miss
out on sixth place. Matthew Rose went off to a standing ovation
to be replaced by Tony Scully as we went 4-4-2. Rowland seemed
incapable of playing left wing as Sheffield began to find space
on the right wing.
Paul Devlin
came on and scored a good goal after Rangers had spent the last
ten minutes doing their best to concede. A few fans became nervous
but it was game over and Rangers won't have an easier game all
season and my mates prediction was correct.
Man Of
The Match: Matthew Rose
13. Lee Harper
: Didn't have much to do really 7/10
22. Jermaine
Darlington : Superb again, looked very dangerous going forward
and must be the buy of the year for QPR 8/10
3 Ian Baraclough:
Superb, looks so good in the middle of the back three and was
made captain tonight. 8/10
17. Chris
Plummer : Did well, a good solid defender who you ever love or
hate much like Karl Ready. 7/10
12. Matt Rose
: Solid and dependable but he can't get man of the match every
week. 8/10
27. Stuart
Wardley : How he got man of the match was amazing. Took his goal
well but did little else, mind you if we had a goalscoring midfielder
like him in the Premiership we would have got into Europe. 7/10
15. George
Kulscar : Did well, worked hard and much better than last season.
Nice to see him do well after his illness. 7/10
7. Paul Murray
: Much better tonight from Murray who can still play better and
will have impressed the watching scouts. 7/10
9. Rob Steiner
: Led the line well and looked very dangerous. 8/10
10. Kevin
Gallen : As usual Gallen display, which will get stick if we lose
and praised if we win. He did fade in the second half but he isn't
fully fit. 7/10
Subs
29 Ross Weare
: Not as impressed today but he is still learning 6/10
20. Tony
Scully : Made a few runs but not on that long 6/10
