This was another match which we should have won comfortably, but staged a fantastic fightback to draw level and take home a point. The same starting lineup as Saturday at Blackburn. Rangers played some superb stuff throughout the game, quite possibly the best so far this season, and controlled the match from start to finish against a very much second best Stockport side whose one tactic was the high ball, and who had no idea how to play football.

However, two basic errors cost us two goals in the first half. The first came after 5 mins when Harper failed to deal with a simple cross at his feet and spilled the ball from which ensued a goal mouth scramble, and despite opportunities to clear the ball, it finished up in our net.

The second came just before half time, when yet another long punt was allowed to bounce in our half, and the ball ran through into our penalty area chased by their striker and Rose. Matty hesitated to get in a challenge, and the ball was volleyed in from about eight yards.

In between the goals, Rangers had dominated the half, with Kiwomya missing a golden chance after a fine move had split the Stockport defence apart and left him with just the keeper to beat, but he lifted the ball over the keeper and also the cross bar.

We just were not getting the run of the ball, and also a number of dubious offside decisions were going against us. Second half, and almost immediately we went three down when Ready's tackle saw the ball fly into the top corner as it ricocheted off the Stockport striker.

Gerry then played a masterstroke, bringing on Gallen for Rose, and going 4-3-3. We carried on dominating the game, but suddenly looked more potent up front. It was no surprise when, with 25 mins to go, Wardley crossed left footed from the right, a superb curling head high ball that Gallen glanced into the net to quieten the baying Stockport fans.

One minute later, we got a free kick on the left of midfield.Baraclough swung the ball into the box, and there was Maddix above everyone else to plant a great header into the top corner. We then seemed to stop pouring forward for a while, until Gerry threw on Langley for Rowland with a few minutes to go.

Then, with two minutes left, Gallen scored with a superb volley from 15 yards after a cross was nodded back to him. The Rangers fans went wild, as did the players as we all hugged in front of the terraces. Then in injury time we could have won it as Steiner held off challenges in the box and Rangers players poured in for a layoff unmarked. Steiner knocked the ball to Kiwomya, but his shot beat the keeper but just rolled wide of the far post. Ignore the three goals conceded, tonight's performance was simply excellent.

Player by Player

Harper - At fault for the first goal, didn't have a lot to do.Needs to dominate the area more, and communicate better with his defenders.

Darlington - Some great runs down the right, a few defensive mistakes, but overall played well.

Baraclough - Defended well, but never got forward enough.

Ready - Struggled against their big striker tonight.A whole hearted performance though, never gave up.

Rose - Reasonable, but not up to his best.Looked hesitant at times.

Maddix - Usual solid performance, great headed goal.

Murray - A pretty good performance, worked so hard and ran his socks off.

Wardley - The pick of the midfield tonight, they never really could deal with his runs into the box. Worked very hard, and played some decent balls as well. This boy is improving with each game.

Rowland - Looked a bit lost at times, but played the ball around intelligently.

Kiwomya - Missed at least two clear cut chances, but was always a problem for them with his runs off the shoulder of the last defender.

Steiner - Not his best performance, but kept battling away.

Subs:

Gallen - Added another attacking dimension when he came on, retained the ball well and looked a class above anything Stockport had to offer. Once he scored it looked like the old confidence came flooding back.

Langley - Not on long, but a couple of classy looking passes.
