A classic
QPR match tonight, which included brilliant football and comedy
defending. Rangers started very well and dominated the first half
playing some wonderful one touch football.
Rob Steiner
was looking strong in attack with Gallen also looking good. Rangers
took the lead after a lovely move. A great cross by Darlington
was cut out and Langley played a great ball to Peacock whose cross
was met by Stuart Wardley who headed home his first goal for the
club.
Wardley looked
outstanding in the holding role in midfield and was also our biggest
threat going forward. Danny Maddix missed two great chances from
corners and Gallen was twice unlucky, once with a long range shot
and again when a last ditch tackle stopped a certain goal.
Rangers look
comfortable to say the least but yet again we let ourselves down
in the second half. Port Vale did play better and Tony Rougier
gave Darlington a terrible time on the wing beating him time after
time and an equaliser looked likely.
Chris Kiwomya
then came on for the tired looking Gallen and Rangers woke up
again. Good work by Steiner, who nutmegged his man then used his
strength to push him away, set up Langley who put Darlington in
with a great bit of vision. Darlington's cross was superb and
was met by Wardley again for number two.
This should
have been game over but Rangers sat back. Enter Carl Griffhis
to a lot of boos. Vale kept coming forward though Rougier and
got a penalty with fifteen minutes left. Jeff Minton scored and
Rangers looked edgy. Another good attacking move followed with
Wardley and Ready doing well before Chris Kimowya tapped home
from close range. Game over?? No Rangers tried to throw it away
again.
Maddix gave
a needless free kick away and Gardiner arrived unmarked to head
home for 3-2. Rangers fans became very nervous but despite a few
corners Vale didn't threaten to much (he says after the event
when at the time I was screaming with panic clear the ball!!).
Kiwomya had two great chances to score. The first he shot when
he should have put Wardley in and the second was a poor effort
after a great turn by the forward.
All in all
a good result and in patches we showed what a good team we can
be. Rangers have now got eight points and are in sixth place.
It took us till the end of September last season to get this many
points. Progress is being made.
Man of
the Match: A tie between Karl Ready and Stuart Wardley
Player
by Player
1. Ludo Miklosko
: A solid game, looked nervous towards the end but in truth had
very little to do and no chance with the goals. 8/10
22. Jermaine
Darlington: Great first half, looks brilliant going forward but
is prone to mistakes and was given the run around in the second
half. He needs to improve or players like Kennedy will rip him
apart. 6/10
3.Ian Baraclough
: Played well, solid in defence and put in some great crosses
and corners. He looks better now he has someone to aim for. 8/10
5.Karl Ready
: Very solid, made very few mistakes. It appears that he has been
told to kick the ball as far away our goal as possible every time
he gets the ball as he does that well and looked dangerous going
forward. 9/10
6. Danny
Maddix : Should have scored twice but played well, a usual solid
Maddix performance 8/10
12. Matt Rose
: Played OK, broke forward well and seems to be suited to this
sweeper role. 7/10
27. Stuart
Wardley : I don't know what it says about the rest of the squad
when a non league player can look so good at this level. I hope
the reason he looks good is due to his ability. Great passing,
tackling and two goals. You can't ask for much more can you? 9/10
8. Gavin
Peacock : Ran his heart out again but didn't look as dangerous.
Quality player though and wining means so much to him. He seems
to love the club. 7/10
21. Richard
Langley: Great skill and vision but not a great performance. In
patches he is brilliant but he needs to learn to impose himself
on games. He is young though so I'll let him off. 7/10
9. Rob Steiner:
My first chance to see Rob first hand. He impressed me with his
determination but I can't see him scoring many goals. 7/10
10. Kevin
Gallen : My man of the match in the first half. I thought he passed
well, tackled well and was unlucky not to score. He looked tired
in the second half and Gerry was right to change it. 8/10
Subs
11.Chris Kiwomya
: Looked sharp and likely to score every time he got the ball
and should have had a hat trick. 8/10
4. Steve
Morrow : Wasted a few seconds coming on so deserves a 7 for that
alone. 7/10
