Well the unbeaten run has come to an abrupt end following a disasterous afternoon at the Palarse. Things started badly and got worse. In the first minute Darlington miscontrolled a ball near the touchline and gifted Palace a throw in. From the ensuing attack Rose had a chance to clear but failed to do so, the ball was played out to the Palace right wing and from a good cross McKenzie made no mistake - no chance for Harper.

The remainder of the first half was very scrappy, the R's put in lots of effort but the passing was terrible. Steiner had one good header well saved by Digby, following a Barraclough cross, but apart from that Steiner & Kiwomya were kept very quiet.

In fact Palarse should have gone into the break 2-0 up, but one of their forwards hit the inside of the post when he should have scored. Half time saw Gerry make some badly needed changes with Gallen & Peacock replacing Rose & Murray. In fairness to Murray he played no worse than the other midfield players but someone had to make way for the subs and he certainly doesn't appear to be Gerry's blue eyed boy.

The subs certainly made a difference & with Gallen holding the ball up well and passing crisply, while Peacock started making dangerous runs, Rangers started to get on top. However despite having the bulk of the play the only clear cut chance was when Kiwoyma was one on one with Digby, but the keeper foiled Chris as he tried to go round him.

Shortly after this Gallen picked up a knock and had to go off to be replaced by Breacker, and Rangers lost some of their attacking threat. With 15 minutes left and Rangers still on top a poor goal kick from Harper was returned by the Palarse midfield and despite two of their players looking very offside the linesman kept his flag down, Harper was left one on two and Svensson made it 2-0.

The Rangers players and bench went spare, but their vociferous protests only succeeded in getting at least two players booked. The goal stood. After that Rangers lost it. Kiwomya was booked for a late tackle and within two minutes got involved in a pushing match with Svensson which gave him a deserved second yellow and a sending off.

Similarly Ready desrved to go for hauling back an attacker through on goal after his own poor back pass. The conversion of the penalty by Mullins just rubbed salt in the wound.

Overall then a very poor performance by Rangers and I fear the resulting suspensions & injuries (Gallen) from this match may cost us more than just the three points lost here. As far as performances go Maddix was probably the best of a bad bunch, although Gallen looked good in the short time he was on.

Overall the referee was very picky and gave free kicks for the slightest physical contact, which certainly didn't suit the likes of Steiner. However as we succeeded in wasting nearly all our set plays the high free kick count probably favoured Palarse.

I couldn't argue with the referee however on the sendings off and I suppose the "offside" goal was down to the linesman. However if we don't see Mr Lynch again this season I for one won't be disappointed.

Finally to end on a positive note, although it's difficult to do so on a day like today, it was good to see Gavin back on the pitch although it was obvious he wasn't match fit. Let's hope Gerry & the players put this behind them and return to winning ways against Wallsall.
