Q.P.R. 2

Norwich City 2

C.Kiwomya (2) L.Marshall (2)

Gerry Francis gave Rangers fans a shock with his team selection today. With Paul Bruce back to full fitness, he was expected to appear in place of Darlington with Perry moving to the right and Baraclough in the middle. Francis instead made a bold move picking Leon Jeanne for his first start this season and gave Mark Perry a full game in the middle of defence.

The formation remained the same but Rangers did look a little more adventurous. Sitting back in the P Block today and the atmosphere was as good as usual with Gerry Francis Blue and White army being sung loud and proud, although a cold I caught off my mum reduced my involvement in the noise as I sat their sniffing and coughing for most of the match.

Rangers started brightly with Leon Jeanne looking very sharp on the right and causing problems with his skill and pace. Chris Kiwomya was linking well with Langley and Murray whilst Mikkel beck was again winning a fair share of headers early on. Rangers needed a goal but it was Norwich who took the lead against the run of play.

Richard Langley was booked for a foul and from the free kick, Garry Brady floated it across for Lee Marshall who rose to easily out jump his marker and loop his header over Harper who could only watch as the ball hit the net. Norwich looked a useful side playing some nice football and Des Hamilton was causing problems for Rangers as was the pace of Paul Daglish who got away from Baraclough on more than one occasion.

Rangers did fight back after the goal to produce some good stuff. Leon Jeanne was again involved setting up Kiwomya whose pass to Wardley met with a clever dummy from Beck but Wardley could not finish off the move as shot well wide. Mark Perry and Wardley then combined well to send Jeanne through again and the youngster flew past his marker and played a clever pull back for Beck but again the finish did not match the move and Marshall saved.

Jeanne was again involved with a good run and cross which was almost turned into his own net by Matt Jackson. Rangers had claims for a penalty turned down when Roberts appeared to pull Readys shirt but the ref gave nothing. Referee Kevin Lynch was awful throughout the game. Never picking up the six second rule for goalkeepers, allowing time wasting, failing to book players for diving (remember Rob Steiner being sent off for that but I haven't seen a player booked for diving since), he also managed to book Jeanne for a pretty tame challenge.

Paul Daglish ran past Jeanne and Leon clipped son of Kenny's heels. The player managed to continue his run before showing the skills of his dad by throwing himself on the floor like he'd been shot. Good to see that cheating runs in the family. Rangers then produced a wonderful move involving Kiwomya and Murray. Murray's cross met Langley who was unmarked and from seven yards out managed to head wide.

Rangers were playing some good stuff but needed to get a goal urgently and Wardley and beck both had chances with headers but still no goal. Half time was greeted with a few boos and in the blue and white bar where we discussed how we could change things and all agreed Gallen should come on for Wardley as Norwich looked a little suspect at the back. Gerry did make a change but it was not the one I expected. Matthew Rose went off with Gareth Taylor coming on. Rose had been struggling with his elbow injury and I would suggest he should be rested for a few weeks whilst his injury properly heals.

Rangers came out with a lot more passion and quicker tempo and quickly got level. A free kick on the left hand side of the area was awarded and saw some problems in the box. Kiwomya and Daryl Sutch had a handbags pushing match but this seemed to fire Kiwomya up and he looked a very determined man when Langley whipped the set piece in. Kiwomya headed against the post and the rebound bounced off the line and Kiwomya stooped down to head in a simple goal.

Rangers were flying and made another change with Leon Jeanne coming off to a standing ovation. Jeanne had been pushed into the middle in the second half and had not looked as effective. Gavin Peacock replaced him. Another good move followed and Richard Langley found himself clean though, Marshall parried he shot and Kiwomya fought to get the rebound but Matt Jackson cleared the danger. Rangers were all over Norwich and a second goal seemed around the corner but slack defending cost Rangers dearly.

Gareth Taylor put in a half hearted tackle on Jackson before flying in with his studs high to give away a free kick. As Jackson received treatment, the Norwich players moved the free kick 20 yards forward. The ref didn't notice and Johnson's cross saw Marshall beat Ready in the air with ease and followed up his own knock-down by firing a left-footed shot past Harper.

Rangers came back at Norwich with Wardley firing wide but Norwich proved what a potentially good side they can be by playing Rangers off the pitch for the next twenty minutes. Rangers hardly managed a touch as Norwich played keep ball and dominated in midfield. Another change was made with Gallen replacing Beck and Karl Ready joined the attack as Rangers threw everything at Norwich. The ref again failed to spot some pushing between Kiwomya and Sutch at a corner and this time Sutch appeared to slap Ready and Kiwomya but no action was taken.

Again, this seemed to fire Kiwomya up and an equaliser was created through Kevin Gallen. He did well and crossed for Kiwomya to tuck home his 13th of the season. The Kiwomya chant was quickly started by the P block whilst the rest of the stadium sang Pig Bag. Kiwomya almost helped us to nick a winner, his run and cross should have been headed home by wither Gallen or Taylor but they missed out and Wardley with time and space volleyed wide when perhaps he could have done better.

So at full time a 2-2 draw would be about right although if Rangers had taken their chances it could have been a big win. QPR produced one of the best home performances for some time but again drew and that's ends our playoff hopes. A quick word on Norwich, as usual they came to play passing football rather than sit back for a draw and in Des Hamilton and Garry Brady they seem to have signed two good players with a lot of potential.

Man of the Match: Chris Kiwomya
