QPR
failed to complete the double over Huddersfield in a disappointing
game at the Mcalpine stadium. Gerry Francis surprised many by naming
an unchanged side after Rob Steiner and Matthew Rose over came fitness
tests.
Rangers, playing
in yellow and black, started slowly with Huddersfield making most
of the early running. A few corners came but Lee Harper was not
really threatened, as the defence again looked solid. One problem
did appear to surface, as Chris Plummer was being pulled very deep
to mark Marcus Stewart but this did not really effect the game as
it should have done with Huddersfield failing to take advantage
of the gaps appearing in defence.
Rangers began
to string a few passes together but most moves were broken down
with a poor final ball by wide players. Huddersfield began to put
pressure on Rangers with some nice football, which was cutting open,
the Rangers defence.
Marcus Stewart
went close shooting wide when he should have done better and a long-range
effort went wide. Ranger's fans began to get nervous, as we seemed
to sit back and try and hold on for the rest of the half. This was
suicide against a team like Huddersfield but to be honest the plan
would have worked if it hadn't been for some pretty poor referring.
One good tackle
by Steiner was deemed a foul by a ref who had just been shouted
at by Steve Bruce although I am sure their is no connection between
this and the refs performance today. Huddersfield had looked dangerous
from set plays and Clyde Winjhard rose well to head against the
post and in although Chris Plummer may have got the final touch.
Lee Harper could have come for the cross but with so many bodies
in the area it was a difficult choice and probably a no win situation
for the keeper.
That goal seemed
to wake up the 13,000 Huddersfield fans who were silent throughout
the game apart from celebrating the goal. You wouldn't have believed
they were about to go top. Rangers then had a glorious opportunity
to level on half time. A superb ball from Paul Murray saw Rob Steiner
clean through but he appeared to stretch out for the ball when he
had loads of time to control it and score a simple goal. Steiners
attempt went well wide.
Half time came,
and the biggest cheer arrived as Sunderland were leading 4-0 against
Chelsea. Gerry made two changes at half time. Off came George Kulscar
for Richard Langley and Rob Steiner went off for the debut boy Sammy
Koejoe. Steiner had a very poor game but did look only 50% fit today.
Rangers began the half better, spraying the ball about well with
Langley and Murray combining well together.
Jermaine Darlington
was finding himself in some good positions but again the final ball
was letting us down. Rangers then seemed to switch to a back four
with Wardley pushing forward, that left some gaps and Lee Harper
produced some good saves to keep us in the game. We still looked
good for a goal and the R's fans were very loud in telling everyone
that "We are the Rangers Boys".
Gallen was working
well up front and was unlucky on one occasion to see a Huddersfield
defender get a toe to the ball to stop him going clean through.
That was the story of the half, every cross or forward move seemed
to end with a Huddersfield player getting a toe to the ball or their
body in the way and on the odd occasion we got round the back poor
delivery let us down.
Kiwomya then
replaced Gallen and we seemed to lose our way for a few minutes
and gave away possession to easily. Ian Baraclough pulled down Stewart
as those two began an ongoing feud. Bara was booked and almost sent
off minutes later. A blatant elbow by Stewart on Bara and then a
push saw Bara react and both men were lucky to stay on the pitch.
No cards were issued though. The ref continued to give some baffling
decisions but did book a Huddersfield player for time wasting as
they seemed to get the QPR syndrome of sitting back for the entire
second half and rely on quick breaks.
It worked as
well for them as it does for us as we had most of the ball. Ranger
gave all they had but at the end of the day didn't create enough
to get a point. If we had delivered better final balls we would
have got a point but a 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield is no disgrace.
Man of the
Match: Matthew Rose
13. Lee Harper

up. My Player of the Year so far. 7/10
17. Chris Plummer
: Did ok, made one or two errors but did not let the team down.
6/10
12. Matt Rose
: Gets my Man of the Match vote due to him playing with an injury
and still looking real quality. 8/10
27. Stuart Wardley
: Very Poor, never involved really and should have gone off instead
of Gallen. 5/10
15. George Kulscar
: Never in the game, he broke up some attacks but he can play a
lot better. 5/10
7. Paul Murray
: Passed the ball well and looks more comfortable in midfield than
a few months ago. 7/10
9. Rob Steiner
: Probably Robs worst game for Rangers but he didn't look fit. 5/10
