A frustrating night for Rangers as we twice
give away the lead to draw with Oxford United on Friday evening. Jim
Magilton picked a strong side with Cerny in goal and a back four of Ramage, Connolly
Hall and Gorkks whilst Martin Rowlands again started in midfield alongside Mahon,
Balanta and Routledge. Rowan Vine and Patrick Agyemang started up front. Rangers
started well enough and grabbed the lead after nine minutes when Gavin Mahon of
all people volleyed home from the edge of the box past the keeper. Rangers dominated
for long periods with Balanta and Routledge impressing out wide but we failed
to extend the lead with Vine and Agyemang both missing chances to kill the game
off. Half time saw the usual changes made with
Rowlands making way for Alberti and Adel Tarrabt came on for his first appearance
since signing on loan in place of Patrick Agyemang. Tarrabat
made a big impact coming on with his skill and vision and created an early chance
for Vine but he was denied by the keeper. Oxford then drew level with a controversial
penalty as a shot was hit into Gorkss body and handball was given which was harsh
to say the least. Matt Green sent Cerny the wrong
way from the spot to draw level. Rangers quickly restored the lead when Tarrabat
played a role in creating a chance for Routledge who made no mistake from 12 yards
out. Rangers looked set for a win before a rare
mistake by Connolly put Jack Midson through to knock the ball past Cerny for a
second equaliser. Rangers pushed for a late winner after
more changes with Perlloci and Ainsworth coming on and both going close to a winner
but it was not to be and Rangers ended up with a draw.Team:
