Another live TV appearance and yet another humiliating and diabolical performance. After seeing recent games I decided the price of train and match tickets on a Sunday afternoon was too much to bother to watch QPR play so decided to stay at home and watch it on TV which turned out to be the only positive of the day.

As soon as the teams were announced it was obvious we'd get hammered. After last weeks battling and impressive performance we were treated to the return of Zesh Rehmann replacing the ill Timoska whilst Ben Sahar came in for Nardiello and Stefan Moore in for the suspended Leigertwood. I'm not sure what Bignot has done to go from club captain to fourth choice right back but he certainly deserves better.

The rest of the side showed the lack of strength in depth we have and although fans are calling for the return of Nick Ward, Shabazz Baidoo and Tommy Doherty those will longer memories than a goldfish will recall that none of these players have performed any better than the ones currently wearing the shirts.

The game started with Rangers attacking towards the 1,000 or so QPR who had gone along to support the team and it wasn't long before we were on the back foot with the impressive home side looking for an early goal.

On loan striker Miller was causing problems as he ran into the box with Rangers backing off him and allowing him time to cut across along the six-yard box but Stewart did well to clear with Phillips waiting for a tap in.

Phillips went close to opening the scoring from a corner. Rangers zonal marking system worked a treat as usual with us marking space and appearing to all stand still frozen to the spot (we'd be brilliant at musical statues) Phillips spun away to the near post and was picked out but his volley hit the post with Camp beaten and Rowlands hacked it clear. The sooner we start marking players at corners rather than space the better.

It was no real shock when the home side took the lead with more pathetic defending from Rangers. Miller ran into the box with Rehmann backing off him and showing him onto his stronger left foot, his low cross-found Phillips a yard out for an easy tap in. Once again the slightest bit of movement from a forward confused the hell out of Stewart and we were behind again.

We needed a reaction and we got one as we gave the ball away in midfield straight from kick off and were 2-0 down. Phillips had plenty of time and space and picked out Miller with a nice pass, Rehmann played him onside but stopped to put his hand in the air, Miller played to the whistle to run clear and power a shot past Camp with Stewarts last ditch tackle coming in vain. 2-0 and game over after twenty minutes.

In fairness to Rangers when we did break forward we looked like we might cause problems with Ainsworth, Sahar and Blackstock working well together and Rowlands passing the ball well in midfield but it was the defensive side which was so poor with no real closing down of players and it was just too easy for West Brom.

This probably explained why they soon fell asleep and let us back into the game. A free kick around 30 yards out gave us the chance and Rowlands lofted free kick found Blackstock who cleverly headed the ball across goal for Ainsworth to come rushing in and score his first goal since August 2006. It was now game on and a chance for us to put some pressure on West Brom and see how they reacted. Ben Sahar did well on the left to create a chance of himself but his fierce shot was well wide of the post.

Rangers made it easy for West Brom though with the lack of pressure we put them under when they had the ball and it was all to easy for them to create chances. Leon Barnett's header from a corner beat Camp and was cleared off the line by Moore and he did well to react quickly and beat Phillips to the ball with the Baggies striker left unmarked from six yards out. Morrison then left the woeful Barker for dead and was denied by a top save from Lee Camp who was keeping the score down.

The game was then well and truly killed off with more pathetic defending and a sublime finish. Barker and Moore attacked down the left and lost the ball from a throw in and Miller ran down our right with Barker showing no effort to get back and defend. This meant Cullip had to come over to left back, Stewart also came over to cover and with us one short at the back Phillips didn't need a second invitation to pull away to the far post into space. Miller was once again allowed to cut in on his left foot and unleash a shot with Camp did very well to save but the ball fell to Phillips in acres of space, he had time to take a touch, look up and curl a beautiful shot into the top corner leaving Camp with no chance. I think by the time the ball hit the net Barker had broken into a jog and was almost within ten yards of the action. An absolutely disgraceful effort from barker, god knows he won player of the year at Colchester last year.

That was it for the first half and it was a relief that we were only 3-1 down. John Gregory made the inevitable change at half time with Zesh Rehmann coming off but surprisingly it was John Curtis who came on with Marcus Bignot stuck on the bench probably wondering what on earth he has done to become fourth choice right back.

Things didn't really improve although we came close to scoring a second goal when a poor pass across his own box by Barrett was cleared against Sahar but flew straight at the keeper when it could easily have gone anywhere.

It wasn't really our day and we did little to change things with a pathetic effort at keeping the home side out. West Brom were running through our midfield at will and were soon 4-1 up. They had chances before that when Camp saved well from Teixeira but it was Phillips again causing problems for the fourth goal.

Phillips ran through after more woeful defending and Camp did very well to deny him, Cullip headed the ball a few yards away from goal to Koren who had plenty of space and smashed an unstoppable volley past Camp.

What little fight we had shown up until that point was quickly gone and Camp made another good save to deny Robinson after his header from a corner was on target. Rangers made the change after 58 minutes which had been obvious. Marcus Bignot came on for Barker and Ephraim came on for Sahar. It was at this moment that I wondered if Moore had come out for the second half as I hadn't seen him on the screen once, it turned out he had come back out as I saw him jogging back in the 74th minute.

The changes did little to change things as West Brom grabbed a deserved fifth goal. Again it was a brilliant finish, which gave Camp no chance. Blackstock cleared a corner and Greening ran onto the ball from 25 yards out and smashed an unstoppable volley into the bottom corner. Camps view was blocked by Cullip and Stewart and by the time he saw the ball it was whistling past him into the back of the net.

West Brom then showed the quality they have in their squad by bringing on multi million pound signings Chris Brunt, Zoltan Gera and Craig Beattie. When fans talk of us only needing £5million invested in the team to get up to the top of the division seeing a squad as strong as West Brom and how much they have spent should bring a touch of reality back to our supporters.

Thankfully West Brom decided five was enough for them and despite Phillips effort for a hat trick they took their foot off the pedal for the last fifteen minutes. Still in that time they had the ball in the back of the net again when Beatties effort was ruled out for offside, which proved to be a poor decision when Sky showed the replay seconds later.

Rangers had a few late efforts to get a goal back when Rowlands curling effort was saved and a ball across the face of the six yard box just evaded Blackstock.

In the end though the 5-1 score line probably flattered us, West Brom had been better than us all over the pitch and more importantly had shown far more desire than us to win the game. I don't mind losing to the better team, which West Brom clearly were, but to show such little effort is a disgrace. Where was the closing down of the opposition, the chasing back when we lost the ball and all round effort, that's the basics of the game and the very least we should expect of our team.

The only player to come out with any credit was again Lee Camp, without him we'd have lost by 8 or 9 goals. So where do we go from here? Sack the manager seems to be the calls from the message boards and although that's usually the case after we lose a game it does seem to be getting close to the end for John Gregory. He has made far too many mistakes this season in terms of his team selection. I know options are limited but to pick Rehmann ahead of Bignot once was a mistake, to do it six times is getting bloody ridiculous. Bignot may not be the best player in the world but he at least has a football brain and can read a game so doesn't make the same glaring errors every time he plays.

The new signings are also not working out with Chris Barker getting worse by the game and he is making Christer Warren look good. Personally I'd write off the West Brom game and give Gregory a little more time. I don't think we'll be the only team to get spanked by a very impressive West Brom this season.

We need new players in my opinion rather than a new manager and the players we lost from last season such as Jimmy Smith, Lee Cook, Steve Lomas and Paul Furlong have got to be replaced. The next two games this week are vital and are against sides we are capable of beating so it makes sense to me to wait and see where are after Norwich at home before calling or the managers head.

Colchester is now a vital game on Wednesday. I'd like to see us start with Timoska and Bignot at full back and Mancienne back in the middle replacing Stewart. I'd also think about bringing Stefan Bailey in midfield who is a useful player for us in away games where we need to battle, something we were woefully short of today.
