I always love trips to Southampton and yesterday's trip was no different. Rangers were unbeaten at St Marys with a draw and a win in the two previous encounters since Southampton left the Dell and this proved to be another successful afternoon for Rangers.

It's an easy trip for most QPR fans to make and usually sees a big away support with yesterday being no exception as Rangers sold out the 3,000 tickets on offer.

It was an early start for us as we travelled via Reading and were in the Varsity pub in Southampton by 12 ready for a few pre match drinks and to watch the Keegan revolution go from bad to worse.

We arrived at the ground just in time to have a first goalscorer bet and by the time I'd handed over the money the teams were announced and two of my picks (Stewart and Buzsacky) were not in the starting eleven.

De Canio decided that the long trips back from international duty for Stewart and Buzsacky meant they would start on the bench so there were starts for Matthew Connolly in defence and Kieran lee on the right wing with the rest of the side unchanged.

The game couldn't have got off to a worse start as Southampton kicked off attacking towards the far end of the stadium and a mix up in defence saw Camp come out and gather the ball but his momentum saw him carry the ball outside the box. I thought Camp was a little fortunate not to be sent off but that rule may well have changed.

The free kick was whipped into the middle and Powell got a touch on it to divert it past Camp into the back of the net. The worse possible start for Rangers and we were behind within 90 seconds before most fans had even sat down.

The home fans to our left were celebrating like mad and sang when the Saints go marching in, then sang it again, and again and again and again. They really need some other songs.

The home side were well on top though and we looked a little sluggish specially at the back where Mancienne was caught out on the right as Southampton forced some good early pressure and a corner on the left was just scrambled clear by the Rangers defence.

We started to settle though after an awkward first ten minutes with Rowlands battling away in midfield and linking well with Vine. The Rangers forward was dropping deep and drifting out wide which made it hard for Southampton to mark him and we began to control the game.

Southampton continued to have the better of the chances though as Wright-Phillips ran through and shot straight at Camp. Rangers first real effort on goal came midway through the half when an Ephraim corner was cleared as far as Rowlands who smashed a volley towards the top corner but it flew inches wide of the post.

Rangers tried to get in behind the Saints defence with balls into Agyemang who was making some good runs but was forced wide and was unable to get a shot away.

Southampton then missed an absolute sitter that might have put the game beyond us. Ephraim lost the ball on the left to Wright-Phillips who squared it to Stern John. The experienced forward was unmarked from ten yards out with an open goal to aim at but blasted it high over the bar much to the relief of the 3,000 QPR fans and an apologetic Hogan Ephraim.

Rangers were taking control of the game despite being a goal down and were playing some decent football. An equaliser looked on the cards and it arrived to jubilant celebrations in the away end. It was a good goal as well with Rowan Vine getting the ball out on the left by the halfway line.

He ran towards goal with no challenge forthcoming until he reached the edge of the box, a good run by Agyemang took a defender away and Vine beat his man before playing a pass in-between the full back and central defender for Rowlands to run onto and slot the ball under the keeper for his fifth goal of the season. A well worked goal and huge credit to Vine for his role in creating the chance.

From this point on there looked to be only one winner as Southampton players heads went down and Rangers picked up and dominated possession. The second goal followed just before half time and it was goal machine Agyemang getting the goal again.

Hogan Ephraim got the ball on the left and made up for his earlier error by aiming a deep cross to the far post which lofted over the full backs head to Agyemang who hit it first time through the keepers legs and into the back of the net. Agyemang ran over to celebrate with the fans who were not shy in letting Southampton fans know the scoreline.

The home fans were now very quiet and all the noise was coming from us and as the half time whistle went the Gi Gi De Canio song was almost deafening beneath the stand with fans getting a half time refreshment.

The way we were playing it looked like we could go on and get a comfortable win but Rangers have rarely played two halves the same this season which was a slight worry.

De Canio made a change at half time taking off the disappointing Kieran lee and replacing him with Buzsacky. This gave Rangers a bit more creativity out wide and we continued to use the ball well as the second half began. We were able to soak up pressure and hit them on the break with the Saints having very little threat in the final third of the pitch.

Most of the fun was being had in the QPR end with plenty of noise being made and we were able to celebrate again when Agyemang scored the third goal of the afternoon.

It came in bizarre circumstances. Lee Camp launched a long kick forward which Agyemang chased but there appeared to be no problems at all. Southampton went mad though as Wright headed past the keeper and Agyemang walked the ball to the empty net before stopping it on the line and back heeling it in for goal number three. It was a comical goal and you have to love Kelvin Davies in the Southampton goal who always seems to gist us at least one goal a season.

Rangers were great value for the lead though and were well on top as the home fans began to leave in numbers. The chant "Your support is fucking shit" was aimed at the thousands of fans heading for the exit with half an hour of the game to go which they didn't seem too pleased about.

Things got worse for Southampton when Safri got a deserved red card. Agyemang got the ball on the half way line and was holding it up, Safri went in for the ball then lashed out with a high kick right into Agyemangs hip. The home fans booed and protested but it was as blatant a red card as you will see all season and when you think Leigterwood faced a four game ban for arguing with a ref earlier this season, it will be a travesty that this blatant attempt to hurt Agyemang will only get a three game ban.

Agyemang was taken off as precaution to give Dexter Blackstock a chance again his former club and he worked tremendously hard in the time he was on the pitch.

Blackstock went close to adding a fourth goal after a good run from the right he broke into the box and opted to square it to Mahon rather than shoot and Mahon couldn't get on the end of the chance. It was perhaps due to a lack of confidence from Blackstock that he didn't go for goal.

Hogan Ephraim took a knock towards the end and was replaced by Leigterwood and the game looked well and truly over.

A nice touch followed by the QPR fans as we sang "There's only one Ray Jones" at the stadium where Ray had one of the finest moments of his young life when he scored the winning goal last season. The players also appeared to appreciate this with Hogan Ephraim and Gareth Ainsworth both clapping the QPR support at that moment.

There was still time for a late panic though with some poor defending. A ball into the box found Stern John and He wriggled away from Mancienne to shoot under Camp and into the back of the net. Camp should have done better but we now had four minutes of injury time to hang on.

Southampton won a soft free kick straight from the kick off and threw everyone forward including the goalkeeper but Rangers stood form and cleared the danger. We then went on the break with Leigterwood and Vine on the left but rather than take it to the corner they opted for a cross field pass to Buzsacky who curled a shot just wide of the post.

The final whistle was greeted with a big roar from the QPR fans and it was a case of job done. The 3-2 scoreline flattered Southampton as this was a game that Rangers always looked in control of.

I thought Vine and Rowlands were the men behind the comeback after we went a goal behind. Vine was outstanding again up front, dropping deep and wide they just didn't know how to mark him and the first goal was all down to him with his run and clever pass. Agyemang took his goal very well although the keeper should have done better. You have to love Kelvin Davies he kicked one straight at Furlong a few years back at Ipswich and gifted Ray Jones a goal last year. Not only did he let that one through his legs but the second goal was even more comical and well worth watching on TV. Agyemang really took the piss but stopping the ball on the line then back heeling it.

Great atmosphere in t he away end with for once no loadsamoney songs but a plenty of noise made a s well as there's only one ray Jones song near the end which was a nice touch.

Looking at the table we are closer to the top six than the bottom three for the first time in a long time. Looking at our upcoming fixtures as well of the next seven games, five of them are at home. Whisper it quietly but perhaps the playoffs is not as crazy an idea as it looked a week or so ago.
