After suffering two defeats in a row it was back to Loftus Road for a London derby against in form Crystal Palace. I have to say hopes were not high of a win for us when I saw the team news. Sampsa Timoska was again missing with a virus whilst Blackstock served the second game of a three-match ban. This meant a recall to the side for Zesh Rehmann at centre back with Bob Malcolm moving to right back. So a back four of Malcolm, Stewart, Rehmann and Barker looked to me to be the stuff of nightmares and I felt we had to score at least three goals to stand a chance of winning, something we've not done all season.

Options were severely limited though and going through the squad before the game I couldn't really argue with the team De Canio picked. Adam Bolder was the man dropped to the bench as we went back to a 4-4-2 formation whilst also among the subs was seventeen year old youth team striker Angelo Balanta who has impressed De Canio with his recent performances at youth and reserve team level.

As has been the case in recent weeks at Loftus Road we started the game slowly and looked nervous. The fans were busy singing about going to Chelsea but the more pressing issue was our inability to keep possession as on loan winger Songo broke free but shot straight at Camp.

Watson was looking good on the ball in midfield for them but at the back we looked reasonably solid with Rehmann winning a few early headers and looking a vast improvement on his previous showings.

As the game settled down we took the lead with our first real attack as Vine won a corner on the right. Buzsacky went over to take it and whipped in a brilliant ball to the middle where Stewart rose unmarked to head into the top corner. It was a well-worked goal and one, which seemed to breathe new life into the side as we went on to look a fresh confident side again.

All of our best work came through Buzsacky who was given time on the ball and worked his magic with some wonder passes to the front two. We could have gone further ahead when a nice ball by Rowlands found Sahar and his ball across was a good one and found Vine but his shot towards the near post was pushed away by a decent save. I thought Vine should have hit it across the keeper to the other corner but that's easy for me to say sitting here a day later.

Vine had another chance after a lovely pass by Buzsacky and Vine tried to curl the ball towards the top corner, he ran onto it well but didn't get the connection right and it curled wide of the post.

Hudson had a chance for the visitors at the other end as we struggled again to defend a set piece but his header was over the bar.

The chances continued for us as we looked bright going forward and again it was Speroni keeping Palace on the game. He kept out a decent effort from Sinclair before we wasted a golden chance after a neat build up saw Sahar get space in the box but his shot had very little power on it which made it easier for the keeper to turn away for a corner.

Buzsacky's delivery from set pieces was brilliant to watch as he fizzed in some brilliant balls, which Palace struggled to clear. We needed that second goal though and just couldn't get it as half time approached.

Palace had a chance to equalise when a good free kick from Ben Watson curled just away from Morrison, which proved to be a warning for what was to come.

The man in the middle seemed to change near half time, he went from referring the game sensibly and allowing it to flow to blowing his whistle every few minutes. He had a long chat with Lee Camp about time wasting when the Rangers keeper took a second to clap the fans singing his name. That seemed a bit of an over reaction and it was interesting to see him fail to speak to the Palace keeper in the second half when he took an age over every goal kick.

At half time things looks good as we went in a goal up and playing some good football. We all agreed at half time though that we needed another goal as we still looked vulnerable to any high ball into the box and it was a certainty that Warnock would have been demanding they went more direct after the break.

Rangers came out for the second half a different side and it was horrible to see. Gone was the passing and movement and instead we looked to play it long to the front two and Palace sensed we were there for the taking. We also dropped deep when defending and the midfield may as well have gone off as they being bypassed time after time.

I'm not sure why we panicked so much it must be due to a lack of confidence but even from free kicks we made the wrong choices looking for a pass to Leigertwood rather than putting a ball into the middle and then Rowlands again ushered Buzsacky away from a free kick and went on to make a real mess of playing it back to him for a long range shot. Buzsacky's free kicks and corners had caused problems all night so we really should be putting egos aside and letting him take them at the moment as that did look our best source of a goal after half time.

A goal was coming though and it wasn't to us. Much like at Selhurst Rangers conceded a free kick for a nothing challenge by Stewart on Scowcroft. Watson took the free kick and floated it into the middle where Rangers just stood and watched as Hill got a toe on the ball and put it past Camp who really should have done better. The ball into the six yard box should have seen Camp come out with authority to claim it but he stood still on his line and it was a poor mistake from a player who is much better than that.

As soon as the goal went in you could see the heads of several players drop and it didn't take long for Palace to get a second. This time it came from a corner which was curled under the cross bar, Camp again didn't deal with it and as the ball hit the bar Clinton bloody Morrison was there to tap in yet another goal against us. Even more heads went down after this and changes were desperately needed.

De Canio made a quick one bringing on Nygaard for Rowlands and the big Dane wore the captain's armband. Rowan Vine suffered from Kevin Gallen disease as was once again moved out wide and hasn't played a full 90 minutes without being moved out wide since we beat Charlton. To be fair Vine had be doing very little up front and the big man, quick man partnership was our best options but sadly Sahar had given up and looked like he wanted to be somewhere else so all Nygaard's work and flick ons were wasted by his striker partner.

Palace were still looking pretty average but we were now looking abysmal with nothing going forward and far too many players showing a lack of effort when the chips were down. De Canio looked to freshen things up bringing on the 17 year old Balanta for Sahar and he looked lively when he came on hitting one low cross from the right before seeing his team mates pump high balls several feet above his head rather than use his pace on the floor. Some things never change.

Buzsacky's influence on the game had been non-existent since half time and he made way for Bolder as the fans called for Ainsworth and we really didn't look like scoring as the clock ticked down. There was still time for Colin Wanker to get himself sent off for running down the touchline to kick the ball and waste a bit of time. His side had been given everything by the referee so this at least gave him something to moan about afterwards.

In the end the team were booed off for a pathetic second half performance and already some fans are calling for the managers head. Rowan Vine looked like he had a bit of a row with a fan in the Ellerslie Road stand but soon calmed down and came over to clap the supporters. Ainsworth also made a point of coming on to clap the fans at the end.

Quite what changed at half time is anyone's guess but I very much doubt De Canio went into the dressing room and said, "I know what boys, you've done well first half, how about forgetting all that and go and play like arseholes instead, forget the ball on the floor just hoof it and don't worry about marking from corners any more". I'd imagine the opposite is true.

Rangers are now bottom of the league and deservedly so. We have only won three games all season and that is relegation form by anyone's standards.

Big changes need to be made and have needed to be made for a while and I feel a little sorry for the manager whose hands are tied at the moment, as he is unable to bring anyone in. He was missing two key defenders again in Kanyuka and Timoska and the injury to Cranie has really hurt our chances of staying up. De Canio has come over to this country, to a new way of playing football for him and it will take time to adapt, you'd hope though that the players we have wouldn't be lacking in the English fighting mentality which is what has been badly lacking recently. Much is being made of De Canio's inability to speak English but that is going to take time and is not really an excuse because we were even worse than this when the manager was an Englishman two months ago.

Last night it was hard to pick out anyone for a good performance after half time. Buzsacky got my man of the match for his first half performance alone but after the break he was very disappointing. Leigertwood had his worse game for some time whilst the loan players Sinclair and Sahar have plenty of ability but do tend to go missing when sleeves have to be rolled up and things go against us.

For me I think it's all about confidence at the moment. I was listening to Ian Wright on talk sport yesterday and he was saying the worst thing that can happen is that you play really well and don't win, the longer that goes on it eats away at you and you just know you are not going to win no matter how well you play. That's what has happened to us after we battered Palace and Wednesday but didn't win those games. As soon as Palace scored last night you could see several heads drop and it was only a matter of time before they got the winner.

We need to get a win from somewhere and quite how we get it doesn't matter at the moment. The ball is in the players court and they need to produce a performance for 90 minutes and get some results sooner rather than later otherwise we are going to be well adrift by the time the transfer window opens.
