Rangers final game of pre season and my first chance to see the new look team in action came last night against Premiership Fulham.

It seems such a long time ago since we drew with Stoke on the final day of last season and much has changed since then both on and off the field at Loftus Road with the club said to be a month away from administration which makes earlier claims by Paladini that we were close to breaking even slightly more laughable than they sounded at the time. Anyway it's on the pitch where the focus was last night and a chance for John Gregory to give his side one last run out before the season kicks off next week.

He picked possibly his strongest available side for the game. Lee Camp started in goal behind a back four of Zesh Rehmann, Michael Mancienne, Damion Stewart and new signing Chris Barker. The midfield saw Stefan Moore start on the right with Rowlands on the left and Walton partners Adam Bolder in the middle. Ben Sahar and Dexter Blackstock started up front.

Fulham also had a strong side out which included debutant Lee Cook who got a mixed reception from the QPR fans. Not sure why as we had no choice but to sell him and he been nothing but positive about QPR since he left but some idiots still saw fit to boo him.

The game kicked off with Rangers attacking the school end and we started brightly almost taking the lead early when a good ball into the box by Rehmann was headed wide by Blackstock. Fulham looked dodgy at the back to say the least with Zat Knight doing a good impression of Gus Ceaser at times. Dexter Blackstock had an early shot which the keeper did well to hold on to whilst Stefan Moore impressed on the right with his pace and whipped in a dangerous cross that wasn't far away from reaching Blackstock.

At the other end Cook's every touch was like pantomime with some booing, some cheering and others not really knowing what to do. Cook was up against Rehmann but the much-mocked defender did well against Cook and kept him quiet for much of the half. To be fair to Cook he looked nowhere near fit and probably only played as it was against QPR.

I was Fulham who took the lead after ten minutes with their first real attack of the game. A long ball from Baird into the box was headed back by Healy and looked to be a simple clearance for Stewart but he was very slow to react and made a right cock up of his clearance allowing McBride to bundle the ball past Camp. A very poor goal to concede with both Mancienne and Stewart at fault.

Rangers looked a little rattled as Fulham took control but didn't create too much.

Things got worse on the twenty-minute mark as Simon Walton went down with a suspected broken leg. He went down under a nothing tackle to be honest and immediately called for the bench, the referee was quick to react and stopped the game with Rangers on the attack but it was the right thing to do as Walton looked in absolute agony and was carried off.

Memories of Richard Ord came back and with the club very weak in central midfield it's the last thing Gregory would have wanted. Stefan Bailey replaced him but looking through the squad it's difficult to see who else can come into central midfield if anything happens to Bailey or Bolder. Hopefully Walton will make a full and quick recovery and from the little I saw of him he looked a decent player in the heart of midfield.

The game went very quiet after this with neither side threatening much. Lee Cook upset some of the QPR fans after he was caught from behind by a rash Rehmann challenge. Rehmann was booked and Cook was sitting muttering, "he is fucking shit" as he walked off. Some fans laughed whilst some gave Cook some stick and he seemed pretty pissed off and gave a bit back. A shame to see that but again I'm not sure why anyone was giving him stick to be honest.

At half time Fulham had the lead but it had been pretty even and Jon Gregory will have been pleased with how his side was shaping up. During the break Fulham made some changes with lee Cook going off whilst Rangers remained unchanged.

Once again we started the half well and against a very ordinary Fulham side we began to cause problems for their back four. Stefan Moore was impressing on the right full of running and working very hard for the team. Once again he skilled his full back and put in a lovely cross for Blackstock but Rangers number nine didn't read it and Sahar ended up firing well wide from a difficult angle.

Fulham should have killed the game off when Rehmann skipped and McBride was clean through but he shot straight at Camp.

The premiership side then went into self-destruct mode and handed the game to Rangers conceding two soft goals. A long clearance by Baird went straight to Bolder who found Sahar and they were on the back foot. The one loan Chelsea striker ran into the box and turned one way then the other making Knight look stupid before smashing the ball into the top corner. A fine goal from the youngster who already looks an excellent signing.

Rangers were on the front foot now and the impressive Stefan Moore went close with a good run which saw him beat his man and cut inside before smashing a shot towards the bottom corner but the keeper did well to get down and push it away.

There only looked like one winner from here on as Fulham were all over the place and it didn't take long for us to get the winner. It was more poor defending by Fulham as Bairds pass to Bouba Diop in his own half went wrong as he thought he had time but Bolder was quickly in slide in with a tackle, the ball fell to the unmarked Sahar who made no mistake in turning and passing the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner. Another lovely finish from the youngster.

This was the signal for several changes as Nardiello replaced Sahar and Bignot, Nygaard, St Aimie and trialist James Simmonds also got a run out in the last fifteen minutes.

Fulham began to push for an equaliser but we caught them on the break with a good passing move. Stefan Bailey was at the heart of it and made a great run but just as he was put through he failed to control the ball and the chance was gone.

At the other end Collins John had a great chance to score as he was put clean through but he sliced his shot high and wide much to the amusement of all the QPR fans.

Fulham had a late chance to equalise after Diop's dive won them a free kick but England international Paul Knochesky smashed a free kick straight at the wall.

There was still time for Martin Rowlands to hobble off with another injury but the game was over and Rangers ran out 2-1 winners with chants of Easy drowning out Lawrie Sanchez's post match interview on the pitch.

This was a nice way to end the pre season campaign with a win over Premiership opposition but there is still a lot of work to be done if we are going to push for a top half finish this season.

Looking at the positives though the much-maligned Zesh Rehmann and Stefan Moore will be pleased with their contributions. Rehmann had a solid game at right back whilst Moore was full of running and looked a genuine threat on the right.

Adam Bolder had another good game whilst Stefan Bailey impressed when he came on. He was strong in the tackle and when he lost the ball he made sure he worked hard to win it back again which was good to see.

Up front Ben Sahar was a genuine goal threat and took both of his goals very well whilst trialist James Simmonds looked a decent left sided player.

Fulham were awful though, if that side cost £25million then they have been robbed.

On the downside Walton's injury is a big blow, we are very weak in midfield now and with Rowlands also going off injured we'll struggle to put out a midfield next week.

The team has very little width and didn't create much from open play. On this showing I think we'll do ok this season, I can't see us challenging for the playoffs or anything but we should avoid the problems we had last season and if we can strengthen the midfield then we should have a good season.
