Wolves were the latest visitors to Loftus Road yesterday and were given an early Christmas present as Rangers produced an absolutely pathetic performance to hand over three points to Mick McCarthys men.

John Gregory stuck with the 3 -5-2 system, which saw a return for Zesh Rehmann alongside Milanese and Mancienne after a training ground injury to Damon Stewart, which will see him miss the Christmas period. Martin Rowlands started as a left wing back with Bignot on the right. Marc Bircham made his first start since October alongside Gallen and Smith (whose loan has been extended until the end of the season) in central midfield whilst Ray Jones returned to partner Dexter Blackstock up front.

With no Lee Cook in the starting line up we lacked any sort of creativity and the game was pretty dire to watch during the first half. Wolves offered next to nothing in attack as the back three looked comfortable. Milanese was having a solid game whilst Mancienne looked far more comfortable in central defence. The problem was going forward and with no real width we were reduced to long balls to the front two and hoping to win free kicks. We did manage to win plenty of them and almost scored from a few of them.

Milanese delivered an excellent ball from the left which found Gallen unmarked from six yards out hut his header went straight to the keeper - an inch either side and it would have been a goal.

Marc Bircham and Martin Rowlands both had shots, which went narrowly wide as we increased the pressure on the visitors and looked the more likely to score.

Ray Jones was next to go close as he met a curling free kick with a looping header but the keeper did brilliantly to get a hand to it and put it just over the bar. Jimmy Smith also had a chance which he fired wide and as the half time whistle went things looked good for Rangers and I don't think many people envisaged what was to come in the second half.

Attacking the loft we had an early chance to take the lead as Blackstock's effort was saved but then it all fell apart. Gallen gave the ball away on the right and Wolves broke quickly to take the lead. Mcinode broke down the left and pulled it back for Michael Kightly to pick his spot and he fired into the bottom corner.

Rangers still had plenty of time to get back into the game but the life seemed to be sucked out of the team and we never looked like we believed we would score. Kightly should have made it 2-0 when he was put clean through against Royce but he fluffed the chance.

It was all Wolves now and Royce kept us in it with several excellent saves and by the time Rangers made a substitution Wolves should have been 5 or 6 goals ahead as Rangers completely fell apart.

Furlong came on for the injured Bircham and we switched to a 4-4-2 with Jones going out wide, the change did very little as Furlong struggled to get involved in the game and the central midfield partnership of Gallen and Smith was just getting over run. Gallen just isn't a midfield player and I've no idea why he keeps getting picked in that position and Smith seems to be believing the hype about him and has contributed nothing since he scored at Luton.

Rowlands was giving the keeper catching practice with his attempts at crosses on the right and an attempted diving header from Furlong was the closest we came to a goal and considering he missed the ball that kind of tells the story that we were not going to score.

Most of the fans had left long before the four minutes of injury time were announced and as Wolves kept the ball in the corner John Gregory chose to keep it as it was rather than introduce the pace of Baidoo for a late flurry. The final whistle brought with it mostly silence from the QPR fans who were probably too fed up to even boo the team off.

So another dire performance from Rangers and leaves us in grave danger at the bottom of the table. It is hard to find any positives from the game. Simon Royce had a good game as did Milanese and Mancienne but the rest of them were absolutely hopeless. Gregory needs to take a look at himself, as the decision to continue with Gallen in midfield was baffling. The man is a forward and should be played up front or not at all and at times he looks completely lost in midfield. Gallen wasn't given a great deal of help from his midfield partners, Smith again did nothing and Bircham looked short of match fitness, which was to be excepted. Out wide Rowlands was dire again and Bignot rarely got past the halfway line which didn't really help out attacking options. It's hard to criticise the front two who spent most of the game looking up in the air at balls pumped over their heads.

Gregory needs to make changes and quickly. I'd like to see us go back to 4-4-2 for the Barnsley game even if Cook is missing as it at least gives us more options going forward, the 3-5-2 is just too negative the way we play it and it's no surprise the goals have dried up since Cook got injured.

Rumours suggest that their will be plenty of changes in the next few weeks with Matthew Rose, Scott Donnelly and Scott Thomas expected to leave the club this week which is a little disappointing to say the least.

Next week is a must win game and sadly (or after yesterday that should be thankfully) I won't be going as I'm off to spend Christmas in Florida. This means the web site will not be updated again until after the Luton cup game so I'll take this chance to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. Let's hope 2007 is a little better for QPR than 2006 was.
