As most of the country spent Halloween trick or treating or watching horror films at home I decided it would be much more fun to go up to West Brom and see the latest instalment of comedy defending from QPR and along with the 1,500 other QPR fans I wasn't to be disappointed as Rangers enjoyed another six goal thriller.

With the week booked off work Carly and I were off on the road to West Brom nice and early to avoid the nightmare M5 traffic and after listening to a few episodes of the Ricky Gervais show we were parked a five minute walk from the stadium by half four.

So with plenty of time to kill we managed to find a pub recommended on the internet which was a bit of a mission to find but well worth the effort. It was mostly full of West Brom fans but quite friendly really and they had some great Indian food as well as a barbeque (the barbequed chicken tikka was almost as good as Nygaards equaliser).

If West Brom stay down I'd recommended it for next season although it did get packed by 6pm. We chatted with a couple of West Brom fans who were obviously confident of a win.

They did say that Nathan Ellington had lost it and was a waste of space and that Hartson was crap as well so it was no surprise that Ellington scored the first goal of the evening.

They asked how QPR were doing and I said that we looked very good going forward and capable of scoring 2 or 3 against anyone but we are just as likely to concede 3 or 4, which is why we are struggling. I didn't realise at the time how good that prediction would turn out to be.

We got to the ground before kick off and there was a decent turn out of QPR fans in good voice.

As ever the stewards were heavy handed at West Brom and insisted that all the QPR fans squashed into one corner with 2,500 empty seats being blocked by stewards but to be fair it made for a better atmosphere with all the fans together and right behind the team.

The sound system was ear piercingly loud as it blared out dance music making it impossible to get any kind of atmosphere going which was a shame as on my last visit the noise form the home fans was superb.

The teams came out and it was a surprise to see a few changes to Saturday's side. Michael Mancienne came in for his first start at right back as Kanyuka missed out through injury. Jimmy Smith kept his place after agreeing to stay at Rangers for another two months.

Gareth Ainsworth replaced Rowlands on the right with Kevin Gallen making his first start as a centre forward since March. Ray Jones was again left out after it is rumoured he turned down a fourth offer for his first professional contract. We faced the same problem with Shabazz Baidoo last year and it appears the player is not getting the best advice from his agent.

Nygaard was on the bench along with Milanese who was getting slated by the home fans for his Jimmy Saville hair cut

One interesting point to note was that Steve Lomas remained captain despite Gallen being back in the side. Gregory has since said he doesn't care who the captain is but I actually think this might do Gallen a favour to have the armband taken from him and let him work on his own game for a few weeks.

The game kicked off as Rangers looked to try and make a decent start to the game and not concede within the first ten minutes. It seemed clear quite early though that it was only a matter of time before the home side scored. Rangers looked nervous at the back from the first minute and the home side set their stall out early with the very impressive Jason Koumas running the game in midfield.

Steve Watson had a half chance after we were cut open on the left with Mancienne left with two men to mark as Ainsworth trotted back at a snails pace to help him. Watson headed wide from the cross but within ten minutes we were a goal behind.

Koumas was the man to create it with a simple pass to Kamara which opened us up and the back four seemed to disappear as Royce saved the first effort and it fell to Ellington to roll the ball into the back of the net which evaded Royce's last gasp effort to scoop the ball off the line.

The goal was so simple and Ellington was in so much space I half expected him to be offside, even Ellington looked surprised at how much space he had looked embarrassed to celebrate. He was of course onside though and it was just our own poor defending, which had lead to the goal.

It was looking like a long night ahead for Rangers as West Brom controlled the game.

Koumas was at the heart of everything for the home side and he ran at the Rangers defence as Rehmann looked like a character out of Monty python and the holy Grail shouting run away as he ran backwards and let the midfielder get as far as the edge of the box before shooting but Royce did well to save the effort.

It was so easy for the home side as they kept the ball and appeared ready to score whenever they wanted it was like a cup game against a lower league side as they played with us at times and we looked ready to collapse at any minute.

Simon Royce was fuming with his back four especially Rehmann who failed to listen to any of his orders. A simple ball over the top was going to Royce and as the keeper shouted for the ball Rehmann just headed it out for a throw in putting us under more pressure. I'd thought in the past it was a lack of communication causing the problems at the back but that wasn't the case last night and I'm running out of excuses for Rehmann, he just looks a poor player at the moment.

A rare attack from Rangers almost brought a goal as Lomas took a touch outside the box and fired in a shot, which was well saved by the keeper. It was a rare attack though as West Brom controlled the game. Gallen was struggling to keep possession up front and gave the ball away far too cheaply whilst Cook was finding it hard to do it all on his own and at times tried to take on one player to many.

At the back Royce was keeping us in it and made a great save to deny Watson. There looked to be a little danger when Watson met a deep cross to the far post. His header appeared to be going over the bar but it dipped at the last moment and was dropping into the top corner before Royce got his fingertips to the ball and made an excellent save.

Royce was called into action again when Gera found space and fired in a shot which the home fans were already celebrating as a goal before Royce again pulled off a fantastic save. After so long out it was great to see Royce back to his best again.

He's not superman though and West Brom were deservedly 2-0 up before half time thanks to some more woeful defending. Koumas again was the man who created the chance as he got wide and put over a cross that could have been dealt with but Stewart was flat footed and lost his man as Kamara stepped away from his marker and was left in space to finish from close range.

As the inquest began at the back John Gregory was looking more and more frustrated on the sidelines kicking the dugout and to be honest we began to talk about making an early exit as this had the making of being an embarrassing evening.

With most of the fans in the away end heading to the bar Rangers got back in the game with the last attack of the half. We won a corner on the right and Cook did the signal for a short one. The fans groaned as I shouted out they never work and on cue we scored. The ball was cleared back to Cook who curled a wonderful ball to the far post where Stewart was unmarked and slid in to score his second of the season. It was nice to see us benefit from poor defending for once and at half time the mood was a little less depressing among the QPR fans.

To be honest though I could still see nothing other than a heavy defeat. West Brom were so much better than us, which was to be expected, but unless we showed a huge improvement at the back we would face a hammering. Well that just goes to show what I know as I didn't take into consideration that West Brom also thought the game was won and had switched off.

We began the half full of confidence as Stewart won an early challenge and that appeared to help him grow in confidence. Within two minutes of the half starting we were on level terms with a very well taken goal.

It was a lovely move by Rangers as we worked the ball well in midfield and played it wide to Cook who found Blackstock with a nice ball and the Rangers forward turned and played a low cross into the six yard box for Gallen to finish it off for his third goal in three starts this season.

The Rangers fans were going mad and it was hard to believe we were back in the game. Gallen had been poor up until this point but the goal saw a bit of belief come back and he was excellent for the rest of the game.

We were now right back in the game having coming back from two goals behind for the second away game in a row. We were now getting stuck in and closing them down. Koumas was getting less space to play in and our wide players were starting to give them something to think about rather than spending the game in our own half. We began to dream that we could win the game but it wasn't long before our defensive frailties came back to haunt us.

Lomas had possession in midfield but not for the first time he gave it away cheaply and pointed the finger of blame at the back four for some reason. Ellington played the ball to Kamara who beat the offside trap and was clean through, Stewart tried to get back but Kamara was too quick for him and finished it off to make it 3-2 to Wes Brom.

It was a disappointment but it almost got a lot worse as the home side stepped up a gear and missed two great chances to kill the game off. Kamara looked set to get his hat trick as he found space at the far post but Stewart did well to get across in time and block his shot.

It was end to end stuff now as Lee Cook went on a run through the middle and curled a shot in which looked like it was going to sneak into the bottom corner but the keeper did well to get down and save it. Cook had further chances from free kicks as he twice tested the keeper but couldn't get Rangers level.

At the other end the home side were creating chances but the Rangers back four were performing far better now and getting in some crucial late tackles and blocks to keep the home side out whilst the offside trap was finally working.

A nice passing move by Rangers almost brought an equaliser as Blackstock and Gallen began to link well and Ainsworth's cross to the far post was just too far away from Cook.

Blackstock was then taken off as the Rangers fans booed the decision to remove the exciting forward and Marc Nygaard was brought on to a chorus of boos. I'm not exactly a fan of Nygaard but coming off the bench there is no doubt he is a good player to bring on with his size he can cause a few problems.

It didn't start well for him though as his poor first touch and his failure to jump saw him slated by a fair few fans but as the game wore on he began to improve closing players down and looking far more like the player who had scored goals and impressed in the first half of last season.

With time ticking away Kevin Phillips came on for the home side and fired over as they looked to extend their lead and I don't think many QPR fans fancied us to get anything from the game at this stage before Nygaard sent the away end into jubilant celebrations.

Cook again was the creator running down the left and picking out an inch perfect cross, the West Brom keeper failed to come and collect the cross with any authority as Nygaard got in front of his defender and poked the ball past the keeper for 3-3. The striker ran back and refused to celebrate perhaps he was making a point to those who had booed him but we didn't care as we enjoyed a cracking comeback.

It was now all set up to be backs to the wall stuff for the last few minutes but the home side appeared to have run out of ideas and it was Rangers who finished the stronger of the two sides. Ainsworth looked knackered but was giving it everything and we were now defending from the front giving them no space to play and hitting them on the break. Gregory was urging us forward to get a winner and the fans were up and doing all we could to make sure we got something from this game.

John Hartson came on and was as bad as the West Brom fans in the pub beforehand had suggested, anyone who still claims Gallen is fat should take a look at this bloke who seemed to be hiding a pillow up his shirt.

As the board went up to indicate four minutes injury time it was a nervous time and with our defence we still had time to gift them a last chance.

A ball into the box found Phillips and we backed off to allow his space to work an opening and fire in a shot but Royce was equal to it and made the save. The corner was cleared and the final whistle was greeted with a huge roar from the away end as we had somehow come away with a point in a game, which had looked like being a comprehensive home win.

As we walked back to the car it was hard to hide our delight at getting a point and it had been a fantastic game to watch.

Ironically the point sees us drop a place but no one should be downbeat after that as make no mistake about it West Brom are one of the best sides in the division and very few teams will go to the Hawthorns and get anything this year.

There were still a few problems though and yes you've guessed it they were at the back again.

At the back we really are woeful at times although it has to be said we improved significantly in the second half. Also credit should got to West Brom who were far and away the best side we've played this season especially going forward.

Zesh Rehmann just gets worse and despite several calls from Royce in the first half he ignored them and kept playing us into trouble. Stewart is very frustrating. He gets the basics so wrong, his positional play is woeful but when he plays on instinct he makes some very good late tackles. With the right partner he could be a decent player but that partnership has to go.

The full backs got better in the second half but started the game all over the place with Mancienne getting no help at all from Ainsworth until about half way through the first half.

To be fair though they got no protection from midfield. Lomas was very poor, I thought we missed Bircham in midfield and Smith was very quiet as well. To be honest we really should have lost the game by 6 or 7. We had Royce to thank for keeping the score down in the first half and even when we got back to 2-1 I couldn't see anything other than a heavy defeat.

Second half though we were much better, Cook was causing problems on the left and made two of the three goals and Ainsworth gave everything he had to the cause.

The second goal woke Gallen up who had been terrible up until then but he seemed to grow in confidence after that and finished the game very well. I'd expect him to start again on Saturday.

The fans booed the decision to take Blackstock off but it turned out to be a good move by Gregory. Nygaard is a very different player coming off the bench just as Gallen is.

When Gallen comes on he rarely changes a game, he seems to me to be a player who needs to start games and feel his way into them where as when Nygaard becomes effective late in games he's usually knackered if he starts. So when he came on he caused a bit of panic at the back and deserved his goal. He was closing down defenders and looked like a good player.

In the end we were pretty lucky to get the point but any side that scores 3 goals away from home deserves something out of the game. As I've said before if we can just sort that defence out we'll have the making of a very good side.

During October we have scored ten goals in five games and won none of those games which is very frustrating but I still think we are heading in the right direction under Gregory.

In the end it was a cracking night out and great support as ever from the QPR fans on the road, which the players seemed to appreciate at the end.

Next up for Rangers is Crystal Palace at home and if we can show the same desire in that game and avoid conceding a goal in the first ten minutes we should be able to get something out of that game and possibly move above them in the table.
