On a day where QPR celebrated the 40th anniversary of winning the league cup the heroes of that 1967 team were in attendance to see the team of 2007 take on Sheffield Wednesday.

John Gregory's men badly needed a win as only goal difference was keeping us out of the bottom three and with a visit to promotion chasing Derby to come on Tuesday this was a game we simply had to win.

Gregory made some changes to the side that lost at Ipswich last week. Sampsa Timoska was apparently rested and Marcus Bignot returned t replace him at left back. Paul Furlong made his first start for a while in place of Ainsworth with Rowlands moving out wide whilst exciting new signing Indigo Idiakez made his debut in central midfield in place of Lomas.

Rangers kicked off attacking towards the school end as a packed Loftus Road were right behind the team from the start and the team responded with a blistering start earning three corners in the first two minutes but Rangers couldn't make them count. Idiakez hit the first man with both f his corners before Cook's effort was headed clear.

Cook then created the first chance of the game with a typical run down the left with the defence in panic mode and his low cross found Blackstock who smashed t towards the top corner but the keeper made a fantastic save to tip it over the bar.

It was all Rangers and Blackstock went close again as Bignot swung a ball over from the left and Rangers leading scorer just couldn't get a head on it and the slightest of touches would have taken it in.

Cook was in fine form tearing the opposition apart whilst new boy Idiakez looked excellent on the ball and added some much needed quality into the Rangers midfield. The man who my misses simply calls free kick man after his exploits at Derby a few years ago got his chance from distance in a QPR shirt and went close on two occasions.

Firstly he curled one from distance, which the keeper could only parry but no one was following up and his other effort was just over the bar. Idiakez did look a little rusty at times but no doubt when he gets match fit he is going to be a key player for Rangers, I just hope we are able to extend his loan until the end of the season.

Lee Cook was in sparkling form and went within a whisker of opening the scoring ad he fired in a shot from 35 yards which had the keeper beaten but hit the bar and went over.

Dexter Blackstock went close again when he saw his header well saved by the keeper before Idiakez had another free kick saved by the impressive Turner in the Sheffield Wednesday goal.

Paul Furlong did well to make some space for himself before shooting just wide of the post. At the other end Camp might as well have come to sit with the fans as he had absolutely nothing to do and as the half time whistle blew it was mind boggling how Rangers were not 2 or 3 goals up.

During the break QPR fans had the chance to see some old heroes again as the 1967-cup winning team were presented with awards. Rodney Marsh, Mark Lazarus and the Morgan Twins were among the former players to return and they got an excellent reception from the fans. Lazarus went off on a lap of honour on his own and the league cup was paraded by the former players.

Back to the current side and there were no changes at half time as the team started off the second half continuing to dominate with Cook on fire on the left and Furlong was inches away from getting on a Bignot cross.

Typical Rangers though we managed to go a goal behind with Wednesdays first real attack of the game. A long throw on the right was left by Cullip and missed by Stewart and Brunt was quick to react on the far post and toe the ball past Camp to give them an undeserved lead.

You could see the utter disbelief in the players faces and for the next few minutes the team and supporters were very flat as Wednesday threatened to kill the game off as brunt went close again and a series of corners caused a bit of panic.

Rangers were forced into a change as Blackstock limped off to be replaced by Nygaard and another change was made soon after when Idiakez was replaced by Ainsworth with Rowlands moving into the middle.

The changes seem to breathe new life into Rangers and Nygaard went close with a shot on the turn, which the keeper again saved. Nygaard then made a big impact after playing a one two with Furlong he raced into the box and was pulled down by a defender as Rangers won a penalty.

It was hard to watch as Rowlands put the ball down and smashed his shot to the keepers right, he went the right way but Rowlands got enough on it and levelled the scores.

Rangers almost threw it away within minutes as a mistake by Bignot let in Brunt and from point blank range his hit a cracking shot but Camp did brilliantly to block it and turn the effort wide for a corner.

After that it was all one way traffic though as Rangers did everything but score. Cook was on a mission tearing them apart on the left and after being kicked all over the place for 80 minutes he was amazingly booked for diving after getting another kick.

Cook went on one run near the end that was just breathtaking as he seemed to dribble past five players on the left before cutting it back into space on the six yard box and not one QPR player was there to finish it off.

During injury time we had one last chance as Cooks free kick into the box fell to Furlong just a few yards out but he couldn't get any power on the shot and the keeper kept it out to earn his side a point.

In the end this felt like a defeat especially as the bottom three all won leaving us just two points clear of bottom of the table Leeds.

We battered Sheffield Wednesday for most of the game but just couldn't score. To be fair to Wednesday they played better in the second half and had chances to win it but we should have been 4 up by half time.

Cook was sensational, his run where he beat five players and cut it back for a simple tap in was brilliant but not one player bloody read it and they cleared it.

Idiakez was good but looked a little rusty, I think he'll get better. I thought Rowlands was poor though and Ainsworth not much better when he came on. Hard to fault anyone though as I don't think the players can give much more than they are at the moment.

No doubt though that was a disastrous result and leaves us bang in trouble. We now have to win away from home to stay up which won't be easy. I thought it was a little strange to see no Jones or Timoska on the bench yesterday. I'd like to see Timoska back in the side on Tuesday with Bignot going to right back, Mancienne to the middle and Stewart dropped to the bench. Nygaard did ok when he came on but he's not the answer and if Blackstock is out for a while we are in trouble. Furlong did his best up front but looked shattered in the last half an hour.

You never know with Rangers as we go to Derby on Tuesday, we haven't won away since November and they are second in the table so that's a game we'll probably go and upset the odds to win. With ten games to go every point we can get is going to be vital and no doubt it will be a very nervy end to the season. We really have to start winning some games though otherwise we'll be cut adrift at the bottom very quickly.
