Following on from a good performance and point at Derby this was a must win game for Rangers as we visited the Walkers Stadium to face Leicester City, a side with nothing to play for after a recent good run pulled them clear of any relegation worries.

It was quite a warm day and as we walked to the ground from the town centre we saw that Leicester Rugby club were also playing so the crowds were big around the town and it was odd to see no football shirts just rugby ones until we got closer to the ground. The only football colours I saw were a bloke in a QPR tracksuit and at a second glance I noticed it was Simon Royce who appeared to be going to see the rugby after being dropped from the Rangers team.

When we arrived at the Walkers Stadium it was a surprise to see so many police around, many in riot gear. There was also no alcohol on sale inside the ground so they obviously thought something was going to happen, when we made out way to our seats the police presence in the ground was rather large with police separating Leicester and QPR fans on both sides of us which appeared over the top to be honest but I expect they had their reasons.

The teams were announced and there were no real surprises in the QPR line up. Lee Camp was back in goal whilst the back four stayed the same. Adam Bolder returned to midfield with Lomas dropping to the bench and Ainsworth replaced the injured Rowlands. Nygaard continued alongside Furlong up front whilst Dexter Blackstock sat among the QPR fans as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The game started quite slowly with Rangers looking a little leg weary after putting so much into the game at Derby. Leicester were bright in attack with the movement of the impressive Ian Hume causing problems and he got behind the back four early on to win a corner which Camp dealt with well.

Camp was the busier of the two keepers earlier on as Rangers failed to get a hold of the ball in midfield. Hume tested Camp with a shot, which Camp pushed wide of the post.

The game was very stop start though as the referee took centre stage. He had his book out quickly for Damion Stewart and then added Cullip to the book after Horsefield ran into Cullip. The referee initially played on but when the linesmen flagged he gave a free kick and booked Cullip. All very strange but he was no different to any other referee in booking any foul by a QPR player but the opposition could kick the crap out of Cook, including one very late tackle from behind, but the yellows stayed in the pocket for those.

Cook required some treatment after the foul from behind and looked in trouble but he was thankfully ok and soon rejoined the play and created our first real chance when he crossed for Furlong but his header was high and wide. Furlong had started the game well though and along with Nygaard was working hard for the team up front.

Rangers broke on a few counter attacks through Idiakez but the Spaniard couldn't find the right final ball to send the forwards clear and the chances were gone.

Midway through the half Leicester began to create some chances and Rangers had Camp to thank for keeping the scores level. Ian Hume curled a free kick around the wall, which Camp did well to get down and keep out. He made an excellent save soon after from Stephen Hughes when the former Arsenal man got onto a blocked Hume shot and powered his effort to the bottom corner but Camp reacted well to keep it out.

Camp was also getting a bit of stick from the home fans being called a Derby reject and Camp turned to them and kissed his QPR badge which seemed to upset them. All the noise though was coming from the QPR fans as we got right behind the side, the best of the chants was "Your grounds to big for you" which seemed to upset the locals.

As half time approached Rangers had a chance to take the lead, which we really should have taken. A free kick was lofted into the box and knocked down for Nygaard. The big forward had space and time from ten yards out as fired his shot wide although from where we were it looked like it had gone in as we began to celebrate. God knows how he managed to miss the target with that one and as the half time whistle went many fans were asking what on earth Nygaard was doing in the side; a question no one would be asking by the end of the game.

The halftime scores seemed to be going for us with everyone else losing apart from Southend who were beating Leeds. This though did mean we had to take advantage and win this game or face being four points adrift with two of the playoff chasing teams next up.

The second half began with Rangers looking a different side. We were first to every ball and closing them down all over the pitch. Leicester looked shell shocked and soon behind.

Marcus Bignot lifted a free kick to the far post and Nygaard did well to get some space and head across goal for Idiakez to loop his header over the keeper and into the back of the net. The Rangers fans celebrated and I had to pinch myself at getting two first goalscorers bets right in a week. If only I could cash one in as the Ladbrokes at Leicester refused to pay out my Derby winnings.

The players looked like a weight had been lifted from their shoulders and for the next few minutes absolutely battered Leicester. The home side were all over the place and a second goal looked inevitable. Bolder charged into the box and his cross just missed Furlong whilst Ainsworth beat his man only to see his cross blocked away for a corner.

The self-distruct button was well and truly pushed by Leicester when a ball into the box was half cleared and as Furlong looked to flick it back in the box Maybury stupidly pushed him over for a clear penalty. I half expected the foul to be given against him but we got the penalty. Nygaard grabbed the ball and most of the QPR fans looked away wondering why on earth he was taking it. He showed great bottle to take it though and looked confident as he waited for the Leicester players to stop moaning.

Some clever work by Bignot as Nygaard got ready to take it, he screamed at Ainsworth to go the right of the box to get the rebound, he made it obvious and the keeper saw this which may have put some doubt in his mind as Ainsworth ran across. The keeper dived to his right as Nygaard put it to his left and it was 2-0 and the three points looked in the bag.

Still 2-0 is always a little nervous for fans especially with so long to go. Leicester were crap though and their fans were already leaving before the hour mark was reached. Elvis Hammond came on and combined well with Hume but Damion Stewart came across to make an excellent tackle in his home box and deny the former Fulham man.

Rangers were looking to just contain the home side now but still had chances on the break as Furlong got space on a counter attack but lost possession before he could get his shot away and from a corner Cullip's goal bound effort was blocked by a defender.

Steve Lomas came on to replace the tiring Idiakez who had not been at his best but had scored a massive goal for us and has been a key player for us in the last week.

As the Rangers fans continued to be in good voice we were halted into a stunned silence with quite possibly the goal of the season. The much-maligned Marc Nygaard had worked hard all game but no one could have predicted what was to follow. A long goal kick by Camp was flicked on by Furlong to Nygaard on the right. The big striker allowed the ball to bounce and then hit an unstoppable volley over the keeper and into the back of the net. It was an incredible strike and hard to believe that Nygaard had scored it. The away end was a scene of joyous celebrations and absolute shock. Nygaard didn't appear to want to celebrate with the fans which is fair enough after the stick he's had this season but full credit to him for this goal, which sealed the three points.

Nygaard of course was on a hat trick now and was having a stormer as he got the ball on the edge of the box and tried a Ronaldo style step over which bamboozled the defence and saw him run through and lay the ball back for Furlong but his shot was blocked.

The game was as good as over now and Furlong was given a yellow card for kicking the ball away, which was so frustrating. The ball was going out and he kicked it away but the home side had been using the multi ball system all game where another was thrown on straight away so it was hardly worth a booking. The referee continued his inconsistency soon after when Ian Hume did the same thing for what would have been his second yellow card but nothing was given.

Rangers were still working so hard with two banks of four making it hard for the home side to break us down and closing them down all over the pitch. Cook was working as hard as I've ever seen him and although his moments of brilliances were few and far between in this game his work for the team was vital. Cook even cleared a header off the line as Leicester looked for a consolation goal which to be honest never looked like coming.

Ray Jones replaced Paul Furlong as we looked to rest the 38 year olds legs, Furlong once again had led the line superbly and has played a major part in our recent improvements. Jimmy Smith also got a late taste of the action replacing Gareth Ainsworth before Leicester pulled a goal back.

It came when a ball played behind Cullip was blocked by the defender away for a corner but the referee gave a penalty despite the ball hitting Cullip a good few yards outside the box. The linesmen even gave a corner but the referee deemed it to be handball and then amazingly didn't book Cullip, which would have seen him sent off.

Hume who had been the best player by far in a Leicester shirt sent the keeper the wrong way and the home fans danced to one of the worst pieces of music I've ever heard.

The final whistle brought big celebrations from the QPR fans which got bigger when the news filtered through that no one else in the bottom seven had won which moved us out of the bottom three.

"We were there when Nygaard scored" was the song at the end of the game from the QPR fans and walking back into town after the game the Nygaard goal was the only thing we could talk about. Seeing it on television does not do the strike justice to be honest.

This was an excellent result and full credit again to the players and manager for this result, which in my opinion has been coming for weeks. We should have beaten Sheffield Wednesday by a hatful last week and it was only a matter of time before someone was on the end of a big defeat. We've come a long way since the fans sang "We can't win with one up front" at Ipswich and recent results and performances seem to show the fans had a point.

I couldn't fault anyone for yesterday. Mancienne was outstanding again at the back, he reads the game so well and looks very impressive. Cullip and Bignot were also excellent and praise also for Damion Stewart who I'd have dropped for yesterdays game but had a very good game against the impressive Hume.

Ainsworth and Idiakez were not at their best in midfield but worked hard for the team and Idiakez's goal was a huge turning point for this game. Cook had a very good game on the left and both Bolder and Lomas were very impressive in central midfield.

Up front Furlong looks like the Furlong of a few years ago as he works hard and causes plenty of problems, keeping him fit for the run in is going to be vital

A tight call for man of the match. My brain says Lee Camp who was magnificent again. He was off his line to claim every corner and during the first half he kept us in the game with some great saves. I really hope he gets his chance at Wembley next week for the under 21's but part of me hopes he doesn't so we can buy him in the summer

Goals win games though and man of the match has to go to Nygaard. He created one and scored two to win us the game. I'm still in shock at the Nygaard goal. What an effort. He looked exhausted at the time and I was saying he should come off then he does that. Best goal I've seen since Ainsworth at Rushden. Quite how he can miss that sitter in the first half and then score that goal is beyond me but fair play to him. I've never been his biggest fan, I think his lack of effort at times this season has been criminal but in the last two games he has worked so hard and deserved that yesterday. You can't really blame someone for a lack of ability, he has a poor first touch and is very frustrating at times but when you work as hard as he did yesterday you deserve all the credit in the world.

All the other results went for us so all in all a good week for us. It's not over yet and we have to make sure we continue to play like that for the rest of the season and if we do we'll stay up but it is still very tight at the bottom and it looks like it will be a very tense end to the season for the bottom seven.
