The following is a summary of
the game posted by Ian McCullough on the QPR mailing list
It was a fairly nothing sort of game - although it
was only £2 a pint in the bar - which was nice
We fielded a team of mostly reserves with Richard Langley and DouDou
playing. Padula also fitted the left side of a back three and looked
very assured and will be an excellent signing. He looked like he
was genuinely enjoying himself and it was nice to see him run sixty
yards to congratulate Richard Pacquette on his goal and joining
in with the celebrations for the other two goals.
The pitch was very bumpy and frankly not very good at all but we
never really looked in any real problems, Lyndon Duncan, although
not very tall for a centre-half looked very assured and Wes Daly,
who has obviously been on some sort of weights programme, looked
the liveliest player on the park and scored an absolute cracker
in the second half.
Langley did OK, without ever taking the game by the scruff of the
neck, he showed piece of sheer class in the second period when he
shuffled effortlessly past two defenders before forcing the keeper
into a good save. I hope he plays on Saturday in the middle, but
somehow I can't see it happening.
Pacquette ran around a lot and put himself about and should really
have had a hat-trick. I don't think he is good enough for the first
team yet but I think there is something there that can be worked
on and it is a bit of shame Olly wants him out - apparently it is
Pacquette's inability to want to work on his game which is one (that
and reporting back two stone overweight for pre-season) of the problems
that Olly is unhappy with.
DouDou looked quite sharp, and looks like he has also been on the
weights as he looks a lot stockier than he did last season.
Apart from that not a lot else to report, although there was one
nice sight at the end when about 30-odd little kids joined the players
in their warming down exercises as they left the field.
Can't ever see the likes Fulham, Man U, Arsenal etc letting this
happen, the players seemed to enjoy and I am sure the kids went
home delighted that the likes of Langers and Dou Dou were quite
happy to let them join in.
Fair play to Tim Breacker for letting the kids join in, a small
thing, but good PR for the club - the younger we get new fans involved
the better.
Team (3-4-3): Cole; Stamp, Duncan, Padula; Daly, Langley, Gradley,
Walshe (Herron); Doudou, Fitzgerald, Pacquette.
