The following is a summary of the game posted by Stephen Hey on the QPR mailing list

Not a bad game I guess, and we certainly deserved to win. I suppose I've no idea whether Steaua are any good any more or whether they had a proper side out. They played three up front, which suggested some ambition, but they did not really compete in midfield (certainly not to the extent that we'll get in the league this season).

They did not look comfortable when anyone ran at them, although until Doudou came on the only person to really try was Shittu, whose run through the centre led to our first goal. Their goal was a real classic, a long deep corner hit on the volley from outside the area straight into the corner of the net.

There was quite a lot of niggly behaviour consisting particularly of complaints to the referee and linesman, spectacularly so after the linesman did not flag for a free kick as two QPR players emerged unmarked beyond the defence. Neither got to the ball but there were Romanian histrionics for ages afterwards.

So how good are we? Some concerns from my point of view. Our three first choice strikers (Thomson, Gallen and Connolly) have all the guile you might want but not a great deal of aerial power or pace between them. Palmer is slow; he's probably our 5th best central defender . Murphy looks OK going forward but he can't cross, take corners or free kicks and he's suspect in defence.

And the biggest disappointment has been Langley, who based on the three pre-season games I've seen (Celtic, Spurs and Steaua) has given the ball away far too cheaply and added little to our attacking play. Although he's mostly played wide right (not I suspect his first choice) he's had a pretty free rein to float into the centre, but has not really taken up the challenge.
