Queens Park Rangers 2

K. Gallen (2)

A bad day at the office on Friday meant QPR had an injury crisis going into the home game against Peterborough. Injuries in training to Fraser Digby and Nick Culkin left us without a goalkeeper for the game. Ian Holloway quickly went out and got Simon Royce on loan from Leicester and he made his debut for QPR just a few hours after signing on a month's loan. Royce was not the only change to the side that lost last weekend at Barnsley.

Doudou replaced Karl Connolly on the left wing as the experience forward dropped to the bench. Richard Pacquette was among the substitutes though as he bids to get back in the managers good books after being transfer listed last month. We started in the usual 4-4-2 and the atmosphere in the upper loft was excellent with the fans getting right behind the team after a well-observed minutes silence.

The noise from the terraces wasn't turned into much o the field though as we started brightly but didn't really create much in a tight first half. We managed to open them up a couple of times but poor crossing from Langley and Doudou usually saw chances cleared.

Our best chance came from a corner which found Steve Palmer unmarked but his header went well wide. Matthew Rose and arc Bircham both had long range efforts fly high over the bar and Doudou also had a shot, which was comfortably saved. It was pretty dull though and the enthusiasm of the crowd soon died as Peterborough got back into the game.

The linesmen seem to flag every decsion offside which was good for us until we changed ends in the second half and were subject to some crazy decisions. Barry Fry's team always try and play good football and they cut us open a couple of times but poor finishing let them down and Royce was forced into one good save midway through the half.

The main talking point came just before half time when a long-range shot was punched clear by Paul Furlong for a blatant penalty. Furlong held his head in embarrassment as he tried to con the ref and got away with it. If the ref couldn't see that was a penalty then the likelihood of him getting anything else right was extremely remote. Yes as usual we had three officials who had no idea what they were doing as the got so many things wrong for both teams. One thing they did get right though was the booking of Bircham whose tackle was a little late to say the least.

Peterborough finished the half the stronger side and the offside flag along with some excellent defending by palmer and Shittu kept the scores level at half time. The team went off to a few boos, not sure why as it was still 0-0 and I thought we'd get better in the second half.

No changes by Holloway at half time but we did look a bit sharper, the main problem though was Doudou on the left who was getting into good positions and seeing a lot of the ball but he continued to give it away or fall over and it seemed only a matter of time before he went off. Danny Shittu then had a great chance to put us in front with a free header but Langley seemed to get in his way and the effort went wide.

With about half an hour to go Karl Connolly was stripped off ready to come on probably for Doudou before the little Frenchmen showed what he can do. A brilliant cross field pass by Langley saw Doudou collect the ball at the edge of the area he ran at the heart of the Peterborough defence and caused panic, a nice lay off to Gallen and King Kevin put us in front with a nice shot into the bottom corner.

Relief all around the ground and especially for Gallen who needed a goal after missing so many chances in the last two games. It was great to see all the players run to Doudou after celebrating; even Palmer and Shittu ran forward to congratulate him. Doudou seems to be lacking in confidence and this run seemed to help him as his game improved in the last half an hour.

The goal changed the game and Rangers suddenly looked a good side. Bircham and Rose were doing ok in midfield and Williams and Forbes began to get forward more creating chances. We needed a second though and Marc Bircham went close to getting it with an excellent shot and Gallen hit a shot that went inches wide after good work by Langley.

The second goal soon came though. A good ball by Bircham saw the offside trap broken and Gallen ran though to chip the keeper and the celebrations began. Even Marc Bircham joined in with the pig bag dance and he looks like he is really enjoying his time at the club.

Gallen went all out for a hat trick and had a few chances to do it but couldn't manage a third goal. Richard Langley also went close with a free kick as we finished the game strongly. Rangers fans sang "Barry Barry what's the score?" to Barry Fry, and Fry responded by sticking two fingers up then a zero which I thought was quite amusing.

Paul Furlong went off with ten minutes to go. Richard Pacquette came on and looked more enthusiastic than I have ever seen him before. He ran his heart out and went close with a good shot. Lets hope he continues to improve his game and gets another chance at QPR.

So a good win for Rangers with those booing the team at half time now signing about winning the title again it shows how quickly things can change. It's early days at the moment, we are only 4 games into the new season but on what we have seen s far we loo a better side than last season and have a very good chance of making the playoffs at least.

Man of the Match: Terrell Forbes

Players Ratings

15. Simon Royce: A good debut, had one good saes and did well under pressure at corners. 7/10

2. Terrell Forbes: Got forward more in the second half to support Langley and Gallen but defensively he was as brilliant as ever. Gets my girlfriends vote for MOTM for taking his shorts off. 8/10

33. Tommy Williams: Gets caught out a few times at the back but is looking to be a shrewd signing, took a heavy knock in the second half, which hopefully isn't to serious. 7/10

4. Steve Palmer: Whilst Shittu gets all the praise Palmer does his job alongside him brilliantly. Quite why people want him dropped I don't know. He reads the game well, rarely gets beaten for pace and is an excellent defender. 8/10

6. Danny Shittu: Getting better the more he plays, he seems to be talking to his fellow defenders more now as he grows in confidence. 8/10

9. Richard Langley: A quiet game by his standards. Got better in the second half but giving the ball away cheaply in the first half won't do his chances of moving into the middle any favours. 6/10

7. Matthew Rose: Average game from Rose, he got back and defended well but going forward he offered very little. His best game so far though this season and thankfully he wasn't booed. 7/10

8. Marc Bircham: Not his best game but again worked hard and got better after the goal. Unlucky not to score with one curling shot as well. 7/10

12. Doudou: Pretty awful for an hour giving the bal away, getting caught in possession and falling over but did brilliantly for the first goal and seemed to grow in confidence after that. 6/10

29. Paul Furlong: Held the ball up well and was very strong on the ball when he had it. Looked knackered when he went off but an excellent performance by him and he looks like he is out to prove a point and finish his career playing rather than sitting on the bench at Birmingham Could be a useful free transfer if his wages are not to high. 8/10

10. Kevin Gallen: Took his goals well and after the first his confidence came flooding back. Unlucky not to score his first ever hat trick for QPR. 7/10

Subs:

24. Richard Pacquette: Did well when he came on, obviously a man with a point to prove. 7/10
