Queens Park Rangers 0

Northampton 1

  P.Trollope

An absolutely dire performance from Rangers against a team we simply can't beat. I Rangers made a few changes from last week's team. Doudou came in to play behind the front two in a 3-4-1-2 formation whilst Marc Bircham was back in midfield with Richard Langley suspended.

Calum Wilock made his debut up front after signing on loan from Fulham. The first half was a dull affair as we struggled to create any chances and the Northampton dealt with everything we had to offer.

That wasn't difficult though as the long ball to Andy Thomson just wasn't working and the lack of movement from the front two was giving the midfield no options at all. The midfield can't complain though as when Doudou or Williams got forward the midfield went missing and left them to do it all themselves which usually ended up with us losing the ball.

Doudou put a couple of good crosses in but it wasn't enough.

The highlight of the half was Lee Harper trying to throw the ball out and throwing it against the floor and it bounced over his head. It brought a laugh and a chant of Lee Harper from the Rangers fans but we were soon back to being bored again.

We went back to a 4-4-2 with Rose on the wing and Palmer in midfield as things stated to go from bad to worse. Northampton should have taken the lead in the first half. They went close in the first few minutes and Royce made a brilliant save from a Gabbiadini header before half time.

Our best chance came on the break as Wilock did well to go on a strong run and his cross was inches away from Andy Thomson who just couldn't get his foot on the ball to convert the chance. The hope was during the second half we would improve and get a goal but confidence was pretty low in the terraces and on the pitch.

Doudou was taken off in the second half with Karl Connolly coming on it didn't change much. We had lots of possession and Bircham was running is heart out in midfield winning the ball and passing it well but we still didn't create any chances worthy of a mention.

Northampton took the lead after poor defending saw not one player clear the danger before Trollope was left unmarked to chip Royce with a cracking finish.

This woke us up and we had a few chances to get back in the game. We were piling on pressure but a Tommy Williams free kick and a Bircham volley was all we had to show for our possession.

Dennis Oli and Oliver Burgess came on but they couldn't change the game as we ended up losing again to Northampton who must love playing QPR. It was a truly dire performance and automatic promotion looks a million miles away at the moment.

Man of the Match: Marc Bircham

Players Ratings:

15. Simon Royce: Not much chance with the goal and kept us in with a great save in the first half. 7/10

2. Terrell Forbes: Got worse as the game wore on, he just couldn't find a QPR player with a pass but the lack of movement by the midfield and forwards didn't help. 6/10

33. Tommy Williams: Didn't get one decent cross in during the entire game, a very poor performance. 5/10

5. Clarke Carlisle: Did his job at the back but his distribution was poor. 6/10

6. Danny Shittu: Like Carlisle didn't do much wrong defensibly but the hoofs forward were very poor. 6/10

4. Steve Palmer: Another poor game in midfield, thankfully he was taken off. 5/10

8. Marc Bircham: Showed all the passion and enthusiasm we know he has but also passed the ball well and always wanted the ball. All this from a bloke suffering from glandular fever, a few of his teammates would do well to show the same fighting spirit as Bircham and actuallty demand the ball to feet fromt he defence. 8/10

7. Matthew Rose: Worked hard on the right wining the ball but his final ball was awful. One of out better players though. 7/10

12. Doudou: A couple of good crosses and I thought he was unlucky to be taken off. 7/10

27. Andy Thomson: Perhaps if he had been given the ball to his feet he might have been able to do something. Not surprising after watching the ball played ten foot above his head all game he wasn't alert when his once chance came his way. 6/10

35. Calum Wilock: Looked like Richard Pacquette and played like him as well. 5/10
