With money
being tight at the moment this was one away game to many for me
so I was stuck listening to the game on the Internet and on Crapital
Gold who spent more time talking about Southampton v Man City than
QPR. So much for being number one for London clubs.
Anyway with
Simon Royce going back to Leicester and Clarke Carlisle going off
injured this was always going to be a difficult game. It sounded
like one of those days for Rangers ont he commentary and hats off
to the official site for the commentary yesterday which was far
better than I had expected.
Anyway the
match report this week will obviously be a bit different. Below
are some of the views from the QPR mailing list of the game.
Here's what Dominic Byne had to say
about the game
Just back from a disappointing day.
We had a phenomenal start and there were times in the first 15 or
20 minutes when it was completely one way traffic towards the Crewe
goal. But you had the feeling that we might rue not failing to turn
that pressure into an early goal.
But even after Carlisle went off things
seemed ok. The defence had an easy time of it for quite a spell
so there was a chance to reorganise. Then came an awful mix up.
Shittu seemed more to blame than Digby but we were a long way from
that end so it was difficult to tell. Either way it was a terrible
mix up and we gifted them a goal. It wasn't Shittu's only error
but before anyone leaps on Shittu or Digby just bear in mind that
both were responsible at various moments throughout the game for
saving us defensively.
We had a disappointing second half
performance. Their second goal was offside according to the 500
or so R's fans who were roughly level with the linesman and the
play. I couldn't tell from my position on the half way line. Either
way 2-0 to Crewe was not a travesty of a scoreline by that time.
What was definitely out of order was the reaction of a few idiots
who chased the linesman up and down the touchline swearing abuse
at him. Also there was an idiot who threw a bottle from not far
behind where we were. I don't mind giving linesmen fair abuse from
the crowd - I do it myself when it is justified - but this was way
over the top and could bring the club into disrepute.
Furlong had a mare of game. He just
did not win headers, hold the ball up or really justify his place
in today's team. There will be other days when he is worth his weight
in gold. This just wasn't one of those days. I wanted Gallen to
take the penalty but it had obviously been decided on the training
ground that, in the absence of Connolly or Thomson, Furlong would
step up. The penalty wasn't the worst I've seen. It was not badly
struck but it wasn't perfectly positioned and the goalkeeper read
it right. It was a metaphor for the whole game.
Rangers weren't awful, but we didn't
really click and Crewe read us well.
John McCookoe had a different reading
of the game on the QPR Mailing List
I have quite a different reading of
the game being at the end where Shittu made the cock up for the
first goal. Some bloke in front of me blamed Digby for it somehow
but I thought that was ridiculous. A long punt upfield was expertly
brought down by Shittu but the resulting bouncing ball was halfway
between Shittu and Forbes.
They both dithered and a Crewe lad
nipped in and finished niftily. Shittu actually went on to make
2 more serious blunders, one was right at the end of the first half
when he chested the ball in our area which was quickly intercepted
by a Crewe lad who then crossed across the goal. The other one was
I believe at the start of the second half when he completely miscontrolled
a ball and let the impressive blond no 17 in for a one on one with
Digby, impressive except for his finishing thankfully.
We did start well but for the last
70 minutes we were run ragged really. I don't think we could have
complained if it had ended 5-0 so superior were Crewe.
I absolutely knew the penalty was
going to be saved and I thought it was a very poor kick too, the
keeper barely had to parry it so softly was it struck. Furlong did
have a nightmare, Gallen and Langley in touches showed what we know
they are capable of but I thought the only bright performances were
from Digby, Connolly in the first half and Oli.
It was just a bad day all round really,
we'll probably be brilliant against Blackpool.
