| Well not sure where to start
to be honest. This game reminded me of the Mansfield one earlier in
the season. It was never a 4-0 but after the first goal went in there
was only one winner.
Rangers made several changes after
Tuesday's defeat. Simon Royce was back in goal for the last game
of his loan spell. Danny Shittu came back into defence with Steve
Palmer moving into midfield. Calum Wilock, Kevin Gallen and Brett
Angell started up front. It was a 4-3-3 but switched to a 4-4-2
as the game wore on with Bircham going on the right and Wilock on
the left.
We started brightly and in the first
half I thought we played very well, best we've looked since Gallen
got injured.
Gallen was superb as was Langley and
we dominated most of the half. We just couldn't score. The Cardiff
keeper made a couple of excellent saves but Angel and Gallen both
had great chances to score but couldn't open the scoring.
Some early corners saw Wilock have
a header well saved and Gallen had a half chance to score but shot
wide. We were playing some decent stuff and one excellent move involving
Wilock, Angell and then Langley saw the Rangers midfielder hit a
cracking shot which was pushed just wide.
Gallen had another chance when in
space he volleyed straight at the keeper when he should have done
better and a high ball in by Tommy Williams saw Clarke Carlisle
head against the side netting.
At the back Shittu and Carlisle were
doing well against the brilliant Earnshaw. Judging by his performance
tonight he'll be the man to get Cardiff promoted. He is so quick
and skilful and he always looked like the man to make a big difference.
Shittu was doing well against him though and both central defenders
were working very hard and we looked pretty solid.
The downside of the first half though.
Well I thought Williams was dire, giving the ball away and his crossing
was once again poor. The game completely passed Palmer by but thankfully
Bircham and Langley were playing well so they covered up for him.
Wilock was getting stick from the
Rangers fans but far play to him he had a decent game. Not brilliant
but not as bad as some were suggesting during the game.
At half time the round the pole started
with the qpr.org message board against the QPR mailing list. Being
someone who spends most of the day reading and contributing to both
I was interested to see who won. It finished in a draw with no one
scoring if you're interested. This was the first time have watched
a round the pole since Tracy Stent from QPR 1st had a go a few years
ago, That day a team in yellow thrashed us 6-0 but whilst watching
this I had no idea I was set to witness our biggest defeat since
that day.
We started the second half quickly
with Gallen winning the ball and setting up Angell for a half chance
before Palmer fired a shot wide. It was a good start and we continued
to look the better side. We were beginning to run out of ideas now
and with the team a straight forward 4-4-2 now Cardiff began to
take control.
They took the lead after Royce flapped
at a corner and Earnshaw was on hand to touch over the line. The
referee didn't know if it was a goal but the linesmen 40 yards away
gave it. No idea if it was over the line but no point in complaining
as those sort of decisions go for you if your are lucky and at the
moment we are not a lucky team. Cardiff to be fair stepped up a
gear after the goal and totally blew us away.
Earnshaw was sensational and scored
a cracking second goal. He left Shittu for dead and cut inside to
hit a stunning shot into the top corner. After that heads went down
and the confidence dipped to what it was on Tuesday.
Holloway made two changes, which
brought a disgusting reaction from the fans. Furlong came on for
Angell and was booed straight away. Gallen turned to the Rangers
fans in disgust and urged them to sing up and seemed to be shouting
shut up as most of the P Block was at the Rangers fans who had decided
they didn't want Furlong. Say what you like about him, and I'm not
a fan, but he is wearing a QPR shirt and we have to get behind him.
So what if he used to play for Chelsea, so did Ray Wilkins, Gavin
Peacock, Clive Wilson and many others and we loved them.
Furlong to his credit did ok when
he came on but one great chance fell to him and as he volleyed over
the abuse he got was horrendous. Now it was a great chance and he
should have scored but Gallen and Langley never got anything like
that stick for missing good chances in the first half. I felt one
of the ones Gallen missed was a sitter at 0-0 which hit straight
at the keeper.
Oli also came on and did well at
times on the left in place of Wilock who should go back to Fulham
for his own good. He is wasted here being abused by Rangers fans
every week. He deserves better and the stick he got when he went
off was embarrassing. A lot of trouble between the Q and P blocks
tonight. Hats off to John McCooke whose voice I recognised shouting
fuck off you racists bastards as the no surrender bollocks started.
The R block totally turned on Furlong hurling non-stop abuse at
him before booing the team just a few minutes after singing sing
your hearts out for the lads. The third and fourth goals soon followed.
A Bloke in front of me stood up to
sing as the third one went in so in the words of Arsene Wenger "
I didn't see it". My girlfriend tells me that Forbes did a poor
header back to Royce and Earnshaw nipped in to score. The fourth
a disgraceful back pass by Williams, who was awful tonight, he didn't
look just gave it back to Campbell whose shot was well saved by
Royce but he tapped the rebound in. They had more chances to score
with a free kick going just over as Rangers couldn't wait to get
off the pitch.
Those of us left in the stadium clapped
them of the pitch as they gave everything but something is seriously
wrong at the moment. So a 4-0 home defeat and I imagine more calls
for Ollie's head. I still don't think it will do any good if he
goes. A change of manager and all the uncertainty that brings is
the last thing we need. Knowing the morons we have on our board
though they'll try and take the pressure off themselves before the
upcoming agm.
Things have to change though. Holloway
has to take some of the blame for picking Palmer in midfield again,
it doesn't work and is a waste of a player. Same with Williams he
has been rubbish lately. But the performance was 200 times better
than Tuesday and anything we've seen for a few weeks yet still not
good enough.
The players seemed to be fighting
for the manager and gave it everything but confidence is very low
and the second goal killed us. If we'd played like that in any of
the recent league games then tonight wouldn't matter so much and
we wouldn't be in such a mess. But that's gone now, we have 2 weeks
off to sort things out on the training ground and get the players
heads right. We don't play another top six team now until March
(unless Brentford win today) so lets roll our sleeves up and get
this season back on track. I just hope and pray Ollie is given the
chance to turn this all around.
Man of the Match: Kevin
Gallen
Players Ratings
15. Simon Royce: Could have done
better with the first goal but no chance with the others. Sad that
this is his last game, he has been brilliant for Rangers and I wish
him all the best in the future. 7/10
2. Terrell Forbes: Like most players
good for an hour then fell apart. His form has dipping alarmingly
in the last month. 6/10
33. Tommy Williams: A shadow of the
player he can be. Spent most of the game arguing with officials
and giving the ball away. Very poor. 5/10
5. Clarke Carlisle: Gave everything
like the rest of the team and he had a decent game. He can play
better but the number of games he is playing seems to be catching
up with him after such a long spell out injured. This two week break
will do him the world of good. 6/10
6. Danny Shittu: A much-improved performance
by Danny he was strong and did well against Earnshaw. Sadly he was
up against a quality player who will end up in the premiership.
7/10
4. Steve Palmer: Wasted in midfield.
The game just passed him by as he was left ball matching as men
charged past him into the box, he got in the way of other defenders
and didn't win a single header in midfield despite being six foot
tall. 4/10
9. Richard Langely: A very good performance
for an hour as he ran the midfield passing the ball well and creating
chances for Rangers. When he plays like this he is one of the best
in the division but as we went a goal down like so many others his
game fell apart. 7/10
8. Marc Bircham. Ran his heart out
but no idea why he was on the right wing. Put in a couple of very
good crosses in the first half, which we were unlucky not to score
from. 7/10
34. Calum Wilock: Unlucky with one
header in the first half and his pace caused a few problems which
won us corners. He played to wide though in the second half and
didn't get involved enough. 6/10
31. Brett Angell: Decent performance
by Brett, he held the ball up and linked well with Gallen. Was unlucky
not to score. 7/10
10. Kevin Gallen: Came deep and ran
the game in the first half. His passing was superb and he worked
his arse off. We've really missed him in the last month or so. 8/10
Subs:
29. Paul Furlong: Did ok as he begins
to get his match fitness back. The fans who booed him should be
ashamed. 6/10
20. Dennis Oli: Looked very skilful
when he came on. 7/10
