Queens Park Rangers 1

Tranmere 2

A.Thomson J.Koumas
  S.Barlow

After a week of rumours and speculation regarding the takeover of QPR, it was a relief to get back to football as we looked to build on last weeks win at Notts County. Ian Holloway made two changes to the team with Matthew Rose missing out through injury and Fernando De HornyLass dropping to the bench.

Chris Plummer made his first start since May after another lengthy spell out through injury. The game though was a big let down and the first half was similar to so many we have seen this season with plenty or hard work but not a lot of skill or efforts on goal and in truth it was very dull.

Tranmere had the better of the half as Jason Koumas looked to get on the ball and pass it whilst the movement and work rate of Stuart Barlow caused the defence problems throughout the game. Rangers resorted to long balls from the back as the midfield rarely looked for the ball on the floor and the front two were chasing lost causes.

It was all very poor and like most teams have this season, Tranmere soon sussed out our weakness by attacking the problem left side. Paul Bruce was as woeful as ever giving new signing Jason price plenty of space and we were almost punished on several occasions. One stray back pass by Bruce should have led to a goal as he passed it straight to Stuart Barlow who should have scored by Digby produced a good save.

Chris Plummer was struggling at times and lost his man as Paul Rideout headed over when again he should have done better. Jason Price had the best chance of the lot when he was clean through but his shot matched the entertainment on offer as it was woeful.

Rangers fans were bored and songs such as "Play your hearts out for the fans" were soon followed by "The bar, I'm going to the bar" as Rangers must have made a fair bit of money in beer and food at half time as most of the crowd seemed happy to get away from the action on the pitch.

Just as we prayed for the half time whistle Rangers came to life. We actually passed the ball on the floor for the first time in the half and we cut Tranmere open. A good move involving Doudou and Bignot saw Thomson clean through but curled his shot wide. It was very similar to Michael Owens first against Man Utd last week as Thomson looked to find the top corner but our top scorer couldn't hit the target.

Surely the second half couldn't be as bad as the first but hopes were not high of much improvement and not many people seemed to bothered about leaving the bar at half time to rush back for the second half. Even I missed the first few minutes as I was more interested in chatting to mates in the bar than watching that rubbish.

The second half was just as bad if not worse than the first. It is well known that Fraser Digbys kicking is poor so why on earth continue to pass the ball back to him, on his weaker foot he struggled under pressure and Barlow almost embarrassed Rangers by blocking the clearance but he didn't get enough contact on it to pen the scoring.

It comes to something when the actions in the dugout are more interesting than that on the pitch but the dugouts burst into life after a reckless tackle by Bignot. Tranmere's manager Dave Watson went mad as did several members of the coaching staff as they urged the ref to book or even send off Bignot. Holloway was incensed and they had to be held back from each other as plenty of finger pointing was going on between the pair of them.

At least someone was showing some passion, it was just a shame the players didn't show much as Tranmere got the inevitable opening goal that they fully deserved.

Koumas ran through holding off what some may see as challenges but was more like 3 QPR defenders watching him saying "That Koumas is a good player". Koumas proved his quality by finishing well giving Digby no chance. This should have provoked a reaction from the bench which was long overdue but still nothing.

We had no width to the team and the long ball to the front two just wasn't working. I was just hoping for a small tactical switch with Doudou going wide and Wardley up front but with the team playing so badly Bonnot, Burgess, Fernando and Leroy must have wondered what they have done wrong to not get on when the team are playing so badly.

Now this part of the report may come as a shock so brace yourself, as the game came into the final ten minutes we played the ball on the floor for the second time in the match and once again opened Tranmere up. I know quite amazing, what are the players thinking of and with two pieces of good football we could have scored two goals.

This time it was Thomson through again and his shot was blocked by the keeper when It looked to be going in. Finally we saw a change as Mark Perry went off and on came Leroy Griffiths to the quietest reception I have ever heard to a substitution.

QPR fans appeared to have given up and couldn't see how anyone was going to change this game. He chant of "Your not fit to wear the Hoops" was ridiculous to be honest as not exactly helping the players who looked short of confidence as it was.

Leroy then did indeed change the game with a good run and superb shot which was powerful and curled into the top corner but Tranmere keeper Joe Murphy produced a stunning save to keep us out. From the resulting corner we did get a goal, Terrell Forbes put the corner in and the keeper flapped at it as the ball broke to Andy Thomson and he made no mistake to send the QPR faithful into wild celebrations and the relief was unbelievable, we had played awful but were going to get a point out of it.

I was ecstatic and still celebrating when those bloody scousers went up the other end and scored within 30 seconds. Jason Price (who Brentford fans feel should have been suspended for this game) was allowed space again by Bruce and his cross found Barlow who was unmarked and headed in the injury time winner.

It was pathetic defending by Rangers and summed up the inept performance they had produced for 90 minutes. Rangers fans left in their droves and despite another hopeful long ball the game was over and Rangers got all they deserved from the game which was nothing.

It was a cruel way to lose the game after being so close to getting a point but Tranmere were the better side and it would have been a travesty if we had taken anything out of that game.

Questions will now be asked of the players and manager who must improve otherwise we are going to continue to slip down the table especially when it is as tight as it is at the moment with eleven teams within ten points of the playoffs.

Man of the Match: Marcus Bignot

Players Ratings

32. Fraser Digby: Made some good saves and had no chance with the goals, his kicking is poor which makes the decision to keep passing it top him even more baffling. 6/10

17.Terrell Forbes: Looks good at times but he surging runs down the wing have stopped since he got injured. Perhaps he is not 100% fit but his continued long balls forward are simply not working. 6/10

3. Paul Bruce: I'd love to know why he is still in the team. Absolutely rubbish. 4/10

4. Steve Palmer: Decent at times with his defensive duties and works hard for the team but like Forbes tries the long ball to often. 6/10

6. Chris Plummer: Good to see him back but he looked rusty and didn't have his best game. 6/10

2.Mark Perry: Awful game from Perry who gave the ball away to often and was hardly ever involved. 5/10

7.Stuart Wardley: One of the few players to try and pass it on the floor but as his passing is poor they were usually wayward passes. His height was wasted in a team which never crossed the ball. 6/10

11. Marcus Bignot: The only player who came out with any credit and he ran his heart out for the entire game and was the only one who seemed to have the fight and desire to want to win the game. 7/10

10. Karl Conolly: Hardly noticed he was playing, we hardly ever gave him the ball on the floor and when we did he was usually knocked off it very easily. 5/10

27. Andy Thomson: Thommo thrives on having chances created for him and his movement deserves better. He had three chances in this game and scored one goal, god knows where we'd be without him. 7/10

29. Doudou: A very quiet game but hard to get involved when you are a small skilful forward and your team mates are playing balls so high that even Peter Crouch on a stepladder would struggle to reach them. 6/10

Subs

14. Leroy Griffiths: Almost scored a cracking goal and should have been on earlier. 6/10
