Less than 24 hours after the nation celebrated a draw with Greece it was back to business as Huddersfield visited Loftus Road in a top of the table clash.

The last time we faced Huddersfield they scored an injury time winner to relegate us to division two but that's all in the past now and the two sides who started today's game were almost unrecognisable from those who started in April.

After last weeks defeat at Cambridge, Holloway made the expected changes to bring Connolly and Bignot back into the side. Mark Perry and Dou Dou were both dropped to the bench as Bignot started on the right wing.

For the first time in ages we actually started the fist half very well winning almost all of the 50/50 balls and looking to open up the Huddersfield defence as Thomson looked lively up front.

The opening goal came after some excellent work by Karl Connolly. Connolly picked the ball up outside the box and flicked it through to Andy Thomson who took his chance well from about ten yards out.

After that we looked like we would go on and win the game comfortably, we were running the midfield well and looking solid at the back. Thomson should have finished the game off soon after when he was put clean through and when one on one with the keeper he sliced his shot high over the bar with a shocking miss but I suppose he was bound to miss one sooner or later.

Huddersfield then seemed to come back into the game and Chris Day had to make a few good saves whilst they began to exploit Warren as his poor positional play became the weak point of the team and despite encouragement from Steve Palmer, Warren was struggling and seemed to lose confidence very quickly. Huddersfield soon got back on level terms after some sloppy defending.

Kenny Irons free kick went to the back post and Warren allowed Chris Hay to poke the ball in. Warren should have cleared the danger and that seemed to knock us off our game for the rest of the half. Warren began to struggle against Thorrington and Huddersfield carved open a few chances the best of them fell to Andy Booth who hit an excellent curling shot into the top corner but Day produced a magnificent save.

Half time couldn't come quickly enough to be honest, as we needed to compose ourselves again and begin to win the midfield battle again. During the break most supporters around the ground were talking about when Dou Dou would come on but Holloway resisted the temptation to bring him on and kept things the same for the start of the second half.

We came out looking a much better side but it was still very close as Huddersfield were looking pretty strong but we continued to look strong at the back. The turning point of the game came with a quick counter attack. Huddersfield were piling the pressure on when Forbes broke out of defence and found Thomson the ball broke out to Matthew Rose who hit an unstoppable volley from 30 yards out into the top corner.

It was fully deserved for Rose who was having an excellent game in midfield. Rose ran off to celebrate with his team mates who delighted for him to score such a good goal. Rangers kept up the pressure and Andy Thomson was unlucky with an overhead kick not make it three.

Connolly was then replaced by Wardley as Leroy moved onto the left wing. Within seconds of Wardley coming on we were 3-1 up. A free kick into the box was half cleared and Rose did well to cross the ball back in for Steve Palmer to score from close range. It was no more than we deserved and at this stage it looked as if we would go on to score a few more.

The midfield were very busy and Huddersfield appeared to have given up. We played out the last twenty minutes with little or no problems but didn't create many chances to add to the three goals.

Marcus Bignot then showed why he is such a popular player. He ran down the wing and won a crunching tackle before getting up and winning another one and then another one before they cleared the ball. Bignot is like a man possessed at times and even with the game looking to be over he still works so hard and flies into tackles as if his life depends on it.

As the scoreboard showed the 90 minutes were up Leroy was brought down by a heavy challenge and appeared to throw a punch at the defender. Leroy was lucky to only be shown a yellow card and this seemed to infuriate Huddersfield who had seen Dwayne Mattis carried off minutes earlier after a reckless tackle by Wardley.

Huddersfield then broke down the right and Forbes lost concentration for the first time all season and allowed them to cross the ball and Askar turned it into his own net. This was two minutes into injury time and then the fourth official indicated a further five minutes would be played. God Knows where they got that from and you got the feeling we were going to throw it away.

A series of corners had us all in a panic but we defended them well and Leroy was taken off to be replaced by Mark Perry as we tried to waste a few seconds and bring on another defender. Finally the ref blew up to give us the three points which move us into the top six.

It as a good performance by Rangers and although we have plenty of room for improvement we have now played nearly all of the teams rated as the favourites to go up (Reading, Stoke, Bristol City, Wigan, Cardiff and Huddersfield) and not lost to any of them so hopes are high that we an sustain this push for promotion.

Man of the Match: Matthew Rose

Player Ratings

1.Chris Day: Made a couple of great saves especially in the first half and is improving his kicking all the time. 7/10

17.Terrel Forbes: Made his first big mistake in injury time but he was excellent again defending well and working so hard to get forward and get into space to give his team-mates an option. 7/10

15.Christer Warren: Struggled badly towards the end of the first half and was at fault for the goal but did much better second half and deserves credit for that. 6/10

4.Steve Palmer: He's lethal from five yards and he proved it again today. Words can't describe how good he's been for us at the back and he continued to be superb today. 8/10

28.Aziz Ben Askar: Unlucky with the own goal but did very well against a hard working forward line and has enough confidence to play the ball out of defence instead of just hoofing it. 7/10

10.Karl Connolly: Got caught out early on defensively which could have cost us a goal but did better as the half wore on and created a few problems for their defence. 7/10

12. Matthew Rose: Outstanding game from Rose who worked hard winning tackles and getting forward. If only he could do that every week. 9/10

26.Alex Bonnot: One of his best games and did very well alongside Rose. He always tried to keep the ball on the floor and bring others into play and is getting better all the time. 8/10

11.Marcus Bignot: I love this man to bits, he gives everything out on the pitch and is absolutely superb in what ever position he plays. 8/10

27.Andy Thomson: A shocking miss in the first half and that seemed to affect him for a while but he played well today and was unlucky not to get a second goal. 7/10

14.Leroy Griffiths: Sometimes he looks like a non-league player others he looks pure quality. We saw the best and worst of Griffiths today but for a ten minute spell in the second half he caused loads of problems to Huddersfield but disappeared when he went on the left.

Subs

7.Stuart Wardley: A couple of great flick ons by Wardley and he looked full of confidence and it was a disgrace to hear some of the booing aimed at him. 7/10

2.Mark Perry: On in injury time to waste a few second
