Queens Park Rangers 1

If QPR needed any encouragement to get on the a winning run and gain promotion then the visit to Layer Road must have been it. A complete dump of a stadium one of the worst in the division and the large away following just knew this was going to be one of those days.

Matthew Rose, Aziz Ben Askar and Leroy Griffiths were all missing so it was down to the bare bones for this tough game. Danny Murphy came back into the side along with Gavin Peacock whilst Wes Daly was given his first team debut. Rangers started reasonably well but neither team looked that impressive in the early stages.

It was great to see Thomson back up front alongside Gallen but neither of them was given any service early on and Colchester looked the more likely to score. The goal came and was a freak one which summed up our day. Rapley found himself in space on the edge of the box and his shot was going straight to Evans but got a huge deflection off Murphy and looped into the net.

We responded well though and had a few chances to draw level. Richard Langley did well after being put in by Thomson but his chip over the keeper was cleared off the line. Danny Shittu should have scored from a cross as he found himself unmarked but failed to control the ball and Colchester easily cleared the danger.

Holloway then made a strange substitution taking off Danny Murphy with five minutes of the half remaining to be replaced by Doudou. I couldn't see the point to be honest as Murphy was having a decent game. At half time he made another change with Christer Warren coming on for Wes Daly, which was bizarre, but the youngster wasn't having a big impact on the game.

We started the second half with a bit more purpose about ourselves and pushed forward for the equaliser. It never looked like coming though and Colchester soon grabbed a second goal. Izzet headed a deep cross back across goal and Scott McGleish headed in from close range. It was his first goal in seventeen matches, why do they always break their duck against us?

The game was over now and QPR fans began to turn on individual players. It seemed to most fans that it was all Andy Thomson's fault we were losing and our top scorer came in for loads of abuse. Thomson was called greedy, lazy, shit along with the usual comments such as he doesn't want to play for us, and it was like turning the clock back and watching a QPR team with John Spencer in it.

At one point I'd just had enough of the nonsense being spouted by one particular bloke and got into an argument with him. He claimed Thomson didn't want to play for us and he couldn't be homesick, I tried to point out that without his 18 goals we would have been relegated but fuck him seemed to be this and many other supporters' opinions. It makes me sick that we have a bloke who has kept us in the top 10 of the division all season and because he gets injured and we lose our form he is blamed for the teams failure.

He was clearly not fit yesterday and rubbed his back every time he turned but still gave it his all. Thomson has never been a player to run around like a nutter but he reads the game well, shows good movement off the ball and gets into goal scoring positions. If we don't create any chances for his or continue to hoof the ball over his head then what chance has he got?

When some fans sang Super Andy Thomson many others booked and moaned about it, a complete disgrace and I don't know what people want from our players. I am sick to death of the support this season and to hear people slagging off our best players makes you wonder if it is worth spending all this money every week just to hear people moan.

Anyway back to the game and it was pretty dire, Christer Warren was woeful at left back and gave their winger all the time in the world to cross for Rapley to finish with an excellent volley into the top corner.

We pulled one back through Doudou with a curling shot which was deflected in but by then most people had left.

A frustrating afternoon and a very poor performance by the players to end our playoff hopes. One win could put us back in it but even the most optimistic of supporters would concede we will be back in Division two next season.

Man of the Match: Terrell Forbes

Players Ratings

33. Rhys Evans: Not much chance with the goals but didn't have a great game in goal and showed his kicking was disappointing. 6/10

17. Terrell Forbes: Probably the only Rangers player to play anywhere near his best. 7/10

11. Marcus Bignot: Played in a number of positions throughout the game and seemed to struggle to know what his role was which was not to surprising. 6/10

4. Steve Palmer: Solid at the back then went into midfield and looked poor. 6/10

31. Danny Shittu: Should have scored in the first half and was below par. 6/10

8. Gavin Peacock: Pathetic! To think this man still reckons he can play in the premiership, well if that's the case on this evidence I might get my boots on and make the World Cup in June. 4/10

37. Wes Daly: A tough game to come in and make your debut and he did well without having a big influence on the game, it would be nice to see him get a full 90 minutes. 6/10

23. Danny Murphy: Unless he was injured I can't for the life of me understand why he was taken off. 6/10

9. Richard Langley: Not at his best, his corners were below the standard we've come to expect but we didn't give him the ball enough. 6/10

27. Andy Thomson: A typical performance from Thommo, good movement and some nice touches but if you create no chances for him he won't score and he doesn't look anywhere near 100% fit. 6/10

18. Kevin Gallen: Like Thomson he did some good things but didn't get the ball to feet and the hoof over the top is no good for him. He still hasn't scored in an away match fro us this season. 6/10

Subs

15. Christer Warren: I'd forgotten how bad he was. 5/10

29. Doudou: He tries his best and hopefully the goal will help restore his confidence. 6/10
