Rangers took the lead through a
curling 25 yarder from Koejoe. Koejoe and Langley went close too
as did Wardley. A good turn by Koejoe saw him set up Crouch who
backheeled in number two.
Crouch went close again as did Warren
and then Murray had a goal disallowed. In Injury time Warren cross
was headed in by Wardley. At half time Gerry made nine changes.
On came Darlington, Kulscar, Bruce, Jeanne, Lusardi, Rowland,
Dowie and Graham. Pery, Morrow and Ludo stayed on. The fourth
goal came from a Bruce free kick and was headed in by Dowie.
The 5th was a 50 yard run by Jeanne
which sounded a screamer. We made a few more changes with Langley
and Crouch coming back on and QPR supporter Peter Varney almost
scored for Tiverton near the end. 200 QPR fans made the trip.
Peter Crouch is apparently a 6ft forward who was at QPR as a youth
player and Gerry took him to spurs. He is 19 years old.
TEAM: Miklosko, Heinola (Darlington),
Warren (Bruce), Morrow, Baraclough (Kulscar), Perry, Langley (Rowland),
Murray (Lusardi), Wardley (Jeanne), Crouch (Dowie), Koejoe (Graham)

Rangers chalked up their second
win in 24 hours, beating Third Division Exeter 4-1 at St James'
Park. A Gavin Peacock penalty set the ball rolling while Sammy
Koejoe and Stuart Wardley found the net again on an encouraging
night for Rangers. Just as they did against Tiverton, Rangers
took an early lead and when Christer Warren was fouled in the
penalty area in the 5th minute, Peacock calmly converted from
the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and the ball into
the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
Peacock featured after missing the
thrashing of Tiverton but Chris Kiwomya, Karl Ready, Chris Plummer
and Matthew Rose are still injured, while Kevin Gallen isn't even
in the West Country with the rest of the squad.
Recent recruit Karl Connolly did
manage to shake off a knock in time to make his first appearance
since signing for Rangers from Wrexham. And after coming on for
the second-half he performed well, showing several good touches,
linking nicely with his new team-mates and creating Rangers' final
goal.
Tottenham striker Peter Crouch,
who is likely to join QPR on loan before Saturday's game at Brentford,
was again included in the starting line-up and played a part in
Rangers'second goal, which arrived on the quarter-hour mark. He
touched Peacock's cross into the path of Koejoe, who made no mistake
from close range.
Rangers were in control, but then
indulged in a careless spell that earned them a half-time talking
to from Gerry Francis and handed Exeter a way back into the match.
Seven minutes before the break, Andy Roscoe's cross wasn't cleared
and Alex Inglethorpe gave Lee Harper no chance to pull a goal
back for the home side.
At the start of the second-half
Francis introduced four substitutes, with three of them - Connolly,
Wardley and Antti Heinola - conjuring two more goals for Rangers.
First, Heinola got the better of former QPR full-back Graeme Power
and sent in a teasing cross which defender Mark Burrows turned
into his own net.
Then with 16 minutes remaining,
Connolly smartly pulled the ball back for Wardley to score his
second goal in two pre-season matches. Along with late substitute
Leon Jeanne, Connolly caught the eye in a steady Rangers performance.
And Francis was full of praise for
his recent signing, who almost scored in the closing minutes but
saw his shot fly just over. "I'm very pleased with Karl," Francis
said. "He's a very brainy player and very skilful. He's a great
acquisition for us and it was a great bit of skill to pull the
ball back for Stuart to score."
He added: "I'm very pleased because
we played last night and trained this morning - and it's hard
to do that. We were stepping up this time to play a League side
that had already played Portsmouth. We played well in the first
25 minutes and went 2-0 up. We then got sloppy and went back to
some bad habits and let them back into it. But we played a lot
better in the second-half. We've had two good games but we've
got a long way to go. Friendlies don't mean a lot to me, the most
important thing is fitness levels. But so far, so good. It's going
very well."
