Due to a lack of time tonight, I have been unable to write a match report so here is the report from Jonno as seen on the Message Board. It sums it all up very well.

Some optimism at the start as for once we had some ball players in midfield who might just tip the balance towards attack. And we did start well, mixing the play up with some long ball to Crouch, but also a lot on the ground as well.

Very solid looking at the back, with the new boy Broomes looking like a slightly smaller Carlisle, and playing like him. We still didn't have much width, as the wingbacks were not getting forward quickly enough to provide an option when we attacked. Still, it was an improvement on Saturday.

Then we got a deserved penalty, after an excellent move with Langley and Crouch exchanging passes in midfield, which left Darlo free wide right for Langley to pass out to. His cross came in and Crouch was hauled down before he could head home. Peacock converted comfortably.

Then Darlo went off with an injury, to be replaced by Perry. Sheffield started pushing forward in search of an equaliser, and the warning signs were there as we held out until half time.

We conceded immediately at the start of the second half, as a freekick into the box caused panic, and they scored at the second attempt as we failed to clear. We should have retaken the lead immediately when Crouch's excellent header left Kiwomya an easy chance to head over the on rushing Pressman, but his header went hopelessly wide.

Wednesday then proceeded to dominate the game as we resorted entirely to hoofing the ball forward only for it to come straight back, playing right into the opponents hands.

Francis, as usual, sat on his hands and did nothing despite the fact that he must have been the only person in the stadium not to see that a second Wednesday goal was immininant. They duly obliged when we backed off too much and allowed one of their midfielders to shoot from outside the box, the ball just creeping inside Harper's right hand post.

Only now of course did Gerry react, sending on Koejoe for Perry and switching to 4-3-3.You won't be surprised to learn that this had an immediate effect as we suddenly started to manage some attacks, and pushed Wednesday back.

In this last 15 minutes or so, we could have easily scored four goals, as Crouch missed with a header, sliced over from six yards and had a volley headed off the line with the keeper well beaten, as well as a quite brilliant save by Pressman from Peacock's volley which looked for all the world like a certain goal.

When we finally did score, a Kiwomya header from Koejoe's cross in the last minute, the linesman's flag was up and the goal was disallowed by the ref, a certain Mr Styles (remember him?), although it certainly looked onside to me. Such was Styles' abysmal performance throughout the match though, that this last decision certainly came as no surprise.

Yet another game that with more enterprise and a more positive approach from the manager we would have won comfortably.
