A day that started off with such optimism ended with one of the
worst performances of the season and lets face it we've seen a
few shockers this season. Upon entering the stadium I was surprised
how empty it was, Ian Holloways entrance as manager was witnessed
by a very small and almost silent crowd.
In the match build up we heard Holloway
speak over the loud speakers but I couldn't really make out what
he was saying. The starting line up saw two changes due to injuries.
Holloway decided to give the players one last chance to earn a
place in the clubs future. Christer Warren came in for Darlington
and Ngonge started in place of Kiwomya.
As they came out we saw Holloway
wave to the fans and clench his fists as if to try and get the
crowd going, it was great to see so much passion on the bench
and you got the feeling we were going to see a QPR side full of
fight and desire. How wrong could a person be?
Sheffield United started the better
of the two sides and without stepping out of third gear should
have been at least two goals in front by half time. Rangers were
a shambles with no organisation, no idea of how to put two passes
together and even less idea of how to defend. The only bright
spot of a dreadful half was Michel Ngonge who at least looked
like a man trying to impress and his hard work and skill were
the only way we were going to score.
Peter Crouch showed some very nice
skills at times but his all round game was dreadful as he constantly
gave the ball away, his flick ons were just to weak and wayward
and his finishing was woeful. It's perhaps unfair of me to slag
off a young player such as Crouch in this way but he is not playing
well and his occasional goals are not enough to keep him in the
side.
Not
that we have a brilliant replacement lined up but we desperatly
need to sign a forward who can hold the ball up and has enough
pace to cause problems to the opposition. Ludo was having a strange
game making good saves one minute then flapping at a cross the
next.
Amazingly though we took the lead.
A free kick by Christer Warren was well delivered and Ngonge rose
and his header flew into the top corner. Ian Holloway was celebarating
as if we had won the cup final and it looked like the new manager
had done the trick. Half time and I commented to a mate in the
bar that we were playing shit, he simply said "At least we're
playing shit and winning". I couldn't agree more at that stage,
its results we need now not performances but I had a terrible
feeling that if Sheffield United stepped up a gear we would be
in huge trouble.
So second half began and my fears
were realised. Christer Warren was having a terrible game at left
wing back and Devlin began to sense he had the beating of him.
Between him and Notman they tore Warren apart and a goal soon
followed. A corner was flapped at by Miklosko and defender Shaun
Derry fired in to give them a deserved equilasier.
Rangers players heads soon went
down and as Devlin and Notman were having a great time on the
right a second soon followed. It was George Santos who got the
next one though a good cross found him unmarked with an easy header
past Miklosko.
At this sage we had to make changes
and to Holloways credit he did this. On came Paul Murray and Steve
Morrow for Kulscar and Wardly. Both had been ineffective but personally
I would have brought on Baraclough for Warren at this stage and
Conolly instead of Morrow. Still Murray put himself about whilst
Morrow proved to his new manager that he is useless, lets hope
Holloway learns what a useless tosser Morrow is quicker than previous
managers.
We lacked imagination going forward
and I could not see us scoring no matter what the manager did,
the players were a complete disgrace to the shirt and gifted Sheffield
United a third goal. Rose went on a run forward (at least it was
postive) but after he lost possesion not one of the four defenders
or the holding player could be bothered to put a tackle in on
Santos who ran through and scored a well taken goal. As usual
Rose got the blame but the whole point of Morrow playing as a
holding player is for him to track the attacking midfield player
and cover the sweeper when he goes forward. Just as he did against
Norwich when Lee Marshall scored twice, Morrow just stood and
watched as another midfielder ran from deep to kill us off.
Most of the supporters went home
and who could blame them this was the worst performance of the
season and all down the gutless spineless tossers who have the
front to call themselves professional footballers. I felt very
sorry for Ian Holloway who was screaming for them to show some
passion and keep going but he might as well have saved his voice
for the good it was doing. On this showing we are going down but
lets hope Holloway gets rid of some of the rubbish in our team
and keeps us up but on this showing he has a very tough job on
his hands.
Players Ratings
1. Ludo : So thats 21 goals conceded
in a month now but he is still number one. The mind boggles as
to why he is playing 4/10
18. Christer Warren : What a joke,
he was useless, had no idea defending and has probably played
himself into the reserves. 2/10
24. Perry : Not bad defensivly and
tried to get forward in the first half but his head went down
like so many others in the second half. He can do so much better
than he did today. 5/10
12. Rose : Did well first half
but was poor second half as we fell apart 5/10
5. Ready : Not his best game. 5/10
17. Plummer : Gave away loads of
free kicks and was poor 5/10
15. Kulscar : Does his best but
not good enough 5/10
27. Wardley : Tried hard but he's
just off the pace at this level and should have gone off earlier.
5/10
8. Peacock : Tried hard but seemed
to give up long before the end. Nowhere near the player he once
was. 5/10
26. Crouch : Terrible game, may
as well have gone home at half time for all the good he was doing
5/10
9.Michel Ngonge : A decent first
half and got a deserved goal but we created so little after the
break he may as have gone home with most of the crowd. 6/10
Subs
Murray : Great to see him back
and he did OK. 6/10
Morrow : Do I have to rate him out
of 10 every week its a waste of energy typing his name. 2/10
Connolly : Came on as a third forward
and didn't do much 4/10
