After 13 years at QPR, Danny Maddix
earned a testimonial game yesterday in a disapointing match against
Spurs. QPR started with Harper in goal, back three of Carlisle,
Morrow and Ready, Darlington and Heinola as wing backs, Langley,
Rowland and Wardley in midfield and Crouch and Kiwomya up front.
The game stated pretty evenly before
Spurs began to take control of midfield. Les Ferdinand gave them
the lead after a mistake by Karl Ready saw Les fire home into
the top corner. The second goal came after half time when a Darren
Anderton cross found Tim Sherwood whose deflected shot went past
Harper.
We didn't play very well but Spurs
were not much better. Richard Langley had a very disappointing
game. Disappointing because he was so good I can see a bid coming
from Spurs any day. Bollocks, why didn't you drop him Gerry??
Darlington was also good having a great battle with Ben Thatcher
in the second half.
Crouch was getting loads of stick
within 20 minutes. He had a poor game but the stick he got was
stupid. He's only 19 and he was being marked but a player who
is reported to be worth £15million. The best player of the pitch
was Sir Les Ferdinand who I thought as superb. He held the ball
up, brought others into play, made space for his teammates and
always looked dangerous.
Clarke Carlisle did very well against
him but seeing Les today made me wish he could come back to us.
A fully fit Ferdinand at QPR and we would be champions I really
believe that. We made a few changes as the game wore on, scary
news was that Dowie came on for Crouch, why not Jeanne up front??
Jeanne came on and went on the wing
with Connolly going up front. All in all a poor performance but
the sort of match you would expect to see between a top 10 premiership
team and a mid table first division team. Next week should be
very different.
