Paul Peschisolido made his debut for us as he started his months
loan. Pesch started the game in a little and large forward line
and helped Rangers cause problems early on. With his movement
and non stop running we were creating opening s and langley and
Peacock were linking well with the forward.
An early corner saw Carlisle head
over whilst Tim Breacker was getting down the right well and whipping
in crosses. The first ten minutes were the QPR we all know is
waiting to come out as we passed the ball and looked a good side.
The opening goal was no surprise
and came after good work by Peacock saw his cross flicked don
by Crouch and Peschisolido's shot was blocked but he reacted quickly
and fired the rebound past the keeper. Cue Pigbag music and the
moaners calling him a Fulham wuss to suddenly chant Peschisolido's
name as our new hero.
Portsmouth were never out of the
game though and battled back well with Steve Claridge going close.
Bradbury's knock down was fired over by the player-manager who
should have scored. We continued to play well going forward as
Peacock had a shot charged down after some excellent link-up play
between Tim Breacker and Karl Connolly.
We
then had a good shout for a penalty as goalkeeper Russell Hoult
dropped a cross and pulled down Crouch but the ref waved away
the protests. Both sides had more chances as the half progresses,
Peschisolido delivered a god cross which Crouch couldn't reach
whilst Ceri Hughes saw his free kick go just over.
Portsmouth ended the half strongly
but we should have gone in two goals up when Peschisolido took
a tumble in the box, the ball fell to an unmarked Breacker who
fired into the side netting from eight yards. Just after half
time another blatant penalty appeal was turned away. Lee Bradbury
clearly handled in the box but the ref ignored the cries for a
penalty and Pompey broke away and scored.
Hughes ran at Breacker after a good
move but Breacker allowed Hughes to get a cross in as he backed
off and Bradbury gave Harper no chance as he scored from ten yards.
Thankfully we did not let our heads drop and came out fighting.
Langley was superb in midfield behind all our best moves whilst
Breacker was playing well and Rose was bringing the ball out of
defence and linking with the midfield as we looked on top.
Crouch had a few half chances to
win the game before being stamped on by Darren Moore an offence
the ref did nothing about.
The referee totally lost the plot
after this booking players from both sides and missing some obvious
decisions. One foul on Claridge was met with a yellow card for
Rose after he initially tried to book Carlisle for the offence.
With one player being white and the other black it showed that
he had no idea what he was doing. Karl Connolly then ran through
and was brought down by the keeper. He was going away from goal
so a yellow card was probably fair.
Holt had a big part to play in the
remaining minutes as he saved well from Carlisles header and when
he did flap at a cross Broomes header was cleared off the line
by Miglioransi. One piece of skill which should be mentioned came
from Richard Langley. In his own half the crowd called for him
to clear it but he stood on the ball turned to take three players
out of the game ran forward and produced a pass wide. His range
of passing and skills were a joy to watch again today and there
is still so much more to come from this exciting talent.
Pompey had chances to win it but
in the end a draw was about right. Both sides will feel they did
enough to win but from a QPR view it was much better and more
of the same in the coming weeks will see us pull away from the
bottom.
Man of the Match: Matthew

PLAYER RATINGS
13. Lee Harper : Didn't have much
to do, made a couple of saves, his distribution let him down a
few times and he needs come of his line sometimes but overall
he is much improved. 6/10
2. Tim Breacker : Not my favorite
player but he worked very hard today and Jermaine can learn a
thing or two from Tim's performance today. Tim got in a cross
almost every time he was within 20 yards of goal and with Crouch
up front that can be pretty effective. Defensively he is still
poor though. 7/10
19. Christer Warren : Put in some
decent crosses and some poor ones, needs to push forward more
and leave Langley to take the corners. 6/10
12. Matthew Rose : Back to his best,
passed the ball well and defended well and had his best game of
the season. 8/10
18. Clarke Carlisle : Excellent
again, a great prospect and again looked devastated at the final
whistle despite the improvement. A real Winner who deserved a
goal. 7/10
36. Marlon Broomes : Looks a very
good player, good on t he ball and a solid defender lets hope
we can agree a permanent deal. 7/10
21. Richard Langley : He's had
a few quiet games lately but was on form today and seemed happier
as we reverted to a more passing style. 7/10
8. Gavin Peacock : Has lost a few
yards of pace and it showed again today. He worked hard and showed
some good awareness at times but his days as a goalscoring midfielder
look to be at an end but he still has a vital role to play in
the team. 6/10
10. Karl Connolly : Did well in
midfield, showed some nice touches and got forward well. He is
starting to settle in well and provides a goal threat from midfield.
7/10
26. Peter Crouch : Struggled against
Moore who marked him very well but did his best and that's all
you can ask of him. Perhaps he should have been taken off to give
a fresh pair of legs a run up front . 6/10
37. Paul Peschisolido : A breath
of fresh air up front. His was determined, enthusiastic and a
real threat all afternoon. Brought back memories of Johnny Spencer
and deserved his goal. 7/10
Subs :
27. Stuart Wardley : Came on for
90 seconds and got slagged off by the majority of the crowd sitting
around me.
