Rangers made just two changes to last week’s team. Plummer in
for Maddix and Peacock for Murray. We stated ok and looked quite
comfortable but we were playing long ball more and it wasn’t really
working.
When we got the ball down and played
we brought Knight into the game more and he was a threat to Forest.
They scored on the break with a soft goal. Plummer was caught
out and Haerwood ran through in loads of space and took his goal
well. It was all to familiar and it looked to be the same old
story.
But we didn’t give up and still
looked ok. Forest were pretty average and never really looked
a threat whilst all we could muster was a number of corners which
frustrated the hell out of me. Every corner was hit to the far
post but not one Rangers player stood at the far post instead
all bunched together in the middle. Surely we can get one player
to move away from the middle and get on the end of one of these?
Another problem was Beasant just
couldn’t kick and kept rolling the ball to Bart Williams. He in
turn then used the ball well but why didn’t Crouch or Kiwomya
get on these two and put them under pressure? Crouch was lucky
not to be sent off after he appeared to stamp on a Forest players
head.
Second half and Forest had two good
chances to go in front. Crosses from the left just evaded the
forwards by inches for a killer goal. Peacock and Brown both went
off injured as Ready, Wardley and Bruce came on. We still had
a lot of the ball and Kiwomya was unlucky with a header which
went over and we got into some good positions when we passed the
ball but didn’t deliver the final ball.
It was all looking a lost cause
before Holloway switched it to three up front and Wardley stepped
up to hit a screamer of a shot in off the post. Cue wild celebrations
and comments such as “that couldn’t have been Wardley”. The boy
was doing well and set up a chance for Kiwomya, which he should
have scored.
Knight began to find space as Forest
seemed to fall apart and one good run saw him shoot inches wide
when I was sure it was going to creep in. Final whistle was greeted
with huge cheers as we got an unlikely point but seeing the results
come in on the scoreboard ruined all the hard work. It was devastating
to see Stockport, Palace and Huddersfield all win but all is not
lost yet.
OK we are running out of games fast
but with Stockport, Grimsby and Huddersfield all to face Fulham
and other teams in the top half they could slip up making our
next few games crucial. (No shit Sherlock).
Player Ratings
Harper: Didn’t have much to do but
did Ok 7/10
Perry: Decent job at right back,
can do better going forward but wasn’t really tested defensively.
6/10
Baraclough: Did well today, kept
it simple and backed Knight up all game. 7/10
Plummer: Decent as ever but made
one mistake which cost us two points. 6/10
Brown: Another decent game, shame
to see him go off. 6/10
Darlington: Better from Darlo,
he was more of a threat going forward but I just wish he would
release the ball instead of trying to take on the world. 7/10
Bignot: Ran his heart out winning
tackles and was a read nuisance to Forest all afternoon. He looks
a real bargain. 7/10
Peacock: Tried hard but didn’t have
much of an impact 6/10
Knight: Our biggest threat came
through him and he looks a wonderful talent. 7/10
Kiwomya: Looks a player low on confidence
and was pretty poor again today. 5/10
Crouch: I'd love to know how Crouch
is still in that team. According to most fans around me its ok
for him to give the ball away, get beaten in the air, stamp on
players heads, fall over, have not one attempt on goal all game
as he is trying his best. Well if that’s his best I’d hate to
see him not trying. 5/10
Subs
Wardley: Scored an excellent goal
and did well when he came on 6/10
Bruce: Got a few crossed in and
allowed Knight to drift into the middle 6/10
Ready: Same as Plummer and Brown
was never under much pressure but did OK 6/10
