I was confident enough to back us for a 2-1 win but on seeing
the team I began to lose confidence. We lined up with Ludo in
goal a back three of Morrow, Plummer and Carlisle, Bara and Darlo
as wing backs, Kulscar,Langley and Wardley in midfield and Ngonge
and Crouch up front.
The Rangers fans (about 800-1000
of us) were in very good voice but Birmingham started much better.
Lazaridis was always a threat whilst Adebola looked a threat up
front. Luckily for us Burchil wasn't playing and the Brum strikers
were not having much luck.
They either shot high and wide or
found Ludo in stunning form. He made save after save and he needed
to as without him we would have easily been four down by half
time. We lacked confidence going forward but Ngonge went close
with a good run and shot before he got himself booked for dissent
and he was lucky not to be sent off for his constant handballs.
Second half was much the same. Birmimgham
had a few good chances but we got into the game more and could
have nicked a winner. Crouch had a header saved and Ngonge's header
was cleared off the line. We played with a lot more confidence
as the game wore on and should have had a late penalty. But Rangers
stood firm and aside from Miklosko's heroics, the back three of
QPR performed well to hold a promotion-chasing team to a 0-0 draw
for the second successive away game.
It was very disappointing to see
us go bottom but the performance was so much better than seen
in previous away games. The determination shown was superb and
every player deserved credit. We can and have to play better in
the coming weeks but I left St Andrews more confident about our
survival chances than I was two weeks ago.
