Saturday April 7th
Q.P.R. 1 Blackburn 3

C.Plummer D.Dunn
  M.Jansen
  E.Berkovic

I thought the team selection was a strange one today. No Darlington, Perry, Knight and Kiwomya and back to a back three. Maybe its just me but I just can't see how you can play a back three which includes both Plummer and Ready. I would have had Perry in the back three to mark Jansen but that's just my view.

The first 20 mins we did very well. Played some good stuff and Andy Thomson was unlucky not to score a couple and Crouch was doing well. At the back we looked very uncomfortable but we were doing well enough to go one up with a Plummer header.

Blackburn came back strong and looked pretty good with some passing and movement and Keith Gillespire running at Paul Bruce and Gavin Peacock who were both clueless at how to stop him.

Blackburns goal was a poor one to give away. A free kick was given against Crouch for high feet but crouch won the ball and no Blackburn player appealed. They broke on the right and a cross in saw a comedy of errors which ended with Dunn putting it through Harpers legs.

They scored again soon afterwards but that was ruled out for offside. Blackburn looked comfortable as we began to resort to hoofs to Crouch and they dealt with that easily. The second came right on half time, a quick breakaway and Matt Jansen hit a good volley past Harper but we should have cleared the danger.

Second half was much the same, we lacked invention in midfield and just hoofed to Crouch who was becoming more and more ineffective and looked shattered when he was taken off. On came Leon Knight and Olly Burgess who replaced Baraclough I think. Burgess did Ok in midfield doing things simply and getting stuck in.

Now if you want to know why QPR are facing relegation then watch the last 25 minutes of this game. With the target man taken off and two small forwards up front, Rangers continued to hoof forward and it looked just so ridiculous and we were never going to score. The only times we looked dangerous was when we got the ball down and played ourselves in behind the defence but we lacked the ability to even test the keeper.

The closest we came was an excellent shot by Wardley which went just over. Blackburn got a third late on and that was that. A disappointing result but Blackburn were the best side I have seen at Loftus Road this season. Marcus Bent and Matt Jansen were particularly impressive. So six games left now and even I have to admit we look doomed now.

Players Ratings

Harper : Poor kicking and not really at his best today. 6/10

Bignot: Worked so hard for the team and never gave up. 7/10

Bruce: Did ok and as he came over to take a corner in the 2nd half he was greeted by a group of blokes in front of me giving him a wanker sign. Nice to see some fans still have someone to abuse with Langley and Kiwomya not playing 6/10

Bara: Did Ok but resorted to hoofing a little to often. 6/10

Ready: Bent had the better of him all afternoon but he never gave up and you can't ask much more of him. 6/10

Plummer: Great to see him score, like Ready gives his best but sadly not quite enough. 6/10

Peacock: Waste of space really, the game seemed to just pass him by at timed. 5/10

Wardley: Ran his heart out for the team and had a decent game. Was unlucky with one shot but should have buried a great chance in the first half. 7/10

Rose: Did Ok, not a midfield player but had a decent game 6/10

Crouch: Worked as hard as ever and had a good first half an hour as we attacked Blackburn quite well. Second half though he lost his way and Olly was right to take him off as we needed a new approach. Shame no one told the rest of the team Crouch had gone off and to stop hoofing the ball towards him. 7/10

Thomson: Like Crouch had a good first half and hour then faded. 6/10

Subs

Knight: He's just over 5 feet tall so why pump the ball towards him ten feet in the air. He looked OK with the ball at his feet but was give that opportunity to often. 6/10

Burgess: I thought he did OK, nothing spectacular but worth another look 6/10

Koejoe: Not on for long, tired hard. 6/10
