Scunthorpe made an instant return
to the Championship last season and it was against the odds as they
edged out bigger clubs such as Leeds to win promotion.
Nigel Adkins side were excellent
going forward and the goals of Gary Hooper played a huge role in
their success whilst the excellent McCann in midfield also chipped
in with goals.
They reached the Football League
trophy final at Wembley only to lose in extra time to Luton Town.
A strong late run ensured they
got over the Wembley disappointment and they made it to the playoffs
with a final day winner takes all match against Tranmere.
In the playoffs they beat MK Dons
on penalties to reach Wembley where in a fantastic game they edged
out Millwall to make a return to the Championship.
Nigel Adkins will be hoping to learn
from his last spell at this level and make sure they avoid a repeat
of the relegation they suffered.
They again look to be doing things on
a shoestring budget but keeping the exciting Gary Hooper must be
a boost for them and they will be hoping his goals keep them up.
They have good players throughout the
team with keeper Joe Murphy a very good player and McCann in midfield
could easily get in most sides at this level.
Avoiding injuries will be the key for
them as they don't have the quality in reserve to lose the big players
which is why I think they may struggle.
Also if Hoper does find form he could
well be snapped up by a bigger club so although I do hope they do
well I think they'll be back down to League one at the end of the
season.
Prediction:
24th in the Championship
Rangers have met Scunthorpe twice in
recent years.
At Glanford Park Akos Buzsaky scored
two brilliant goals but that was not enough for Rangers as we twice
gave away the lead to come away with just a point.
The return game was a tough one as well,
we fell behind early and had to fight back against a determined
Scunthorpe side.
Martin Rowlands levelled things up with
a very dodgy looking penalty before half time. A moment of magic
by Buzsaky created a chance for Agyemang to put us in front before
a late Vine goal sealed the win for Rangers.
