Last Season

Doncaster caught everyone by surprise last season with a superb effort.

I fancied them to stay up but to finish as high as they did above the likes of Crystal Palace and Derby says it all about the season they had.

They started well with a win at Derby on the opening day but were quickly into losing ways. Despite playing some lovely passing and attacking football they could not get the results their football deserved.

That turned around in November though as they began to pick up wins and move away from dangers.

They went from looking certainties to go down to a side looking like staying up which they did with plenty to spare.

The goals of Paul Heffernan and the quality of Ritchie Wellens made sure they finished in a very respectable league position that they can be rightly proud of.

How Will They Fare

The second season is always a tough one to negotiate and Sean O'Dricscoll will have a tough job on to repeat last season's efforts.

They have lost the man who makes them tick as well with Ritchie Wellens moving on this summer and he'll be a massive los. How they replace him remains to be seen but I think he leaves a big hole in their team that will be tough to fill.

They'll continue to play some lovely football along the way and if they can remain strong at home they could stay up but I think this might be a tough season for them that ends in a return to League One.

PREDICTION: 23rd in the Championship

Player Connections

Rufus Brevett joined QPR from Doncaster back in 1990. the left back joined as back up to Kenny Sansom and quickly won his place in the side helping us to a mid table finish.

Brevett then found himself as back up to Clive Wilson but when he got the chance he usually looked a decent player. When Wilson left in 1995 it was a chance for Brevett to step up and he proved to be one of our better defenders and a popular player as well.

He left QPR to join Fulham where he helped them to promotion up the leagues and eventually found himself back in the premiership with West Ham.

Previous Meetings

Rangers beat Doncaster last season when the two sides met at Loftus Road. Goals from Dexter Blackstock and Emmanuel Ledesma gave us an early lead and we went on to win 2-0.

The return game at Doncaster was also 2-0 this time to Doncaster as a Damien Stewart own goal put the home side on their way to an easy win.

Our most recent meeting before last year came in 1985 when Doncaster knocked us out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win.
