21. Adam Miller
Adam
Miller joined QPR from non league Aldershot in November 2004.
Adam
had begun his career at Ipswich Town where he played in the reserve and youth
team but first team opportunities were limited and Adam decided to leave and try
his luck at Southend before moving into non league where he would get regular
first team football. Miller had spells at Grays and Gravesend
before joining Aldershot where he began to attract the league scouts again. He
came close to promotion in his last full season with Aldershot as his side lost
on penalties to Shrewsbury. Miller came to the attention of QPR
when Ian Holloway asked scout Mel Johnson to give him a list of the best players
in non league. The Rangers boss didn’t think he’d be able to afford any of them
but wanted to keep an eye on these players for the future. Adam Miller’s name
was on the list and soon after he came to QPR with his Aldershot team for a reserve
game. Miller was hugely impressive and that performance persuaded Ian Holloway
to beg the board for the money to sign him. Within days Adam Miller
was a QPR player and it turned out his dream had come true. Unknown to Holloway
at the time Adam Miller was a life long QPR fan. After putting
pen to paper on an 18 month contract he told the official QPR web site that: "It's
a dream come true and I'm still trying to get my head round it. I'm over the moon
and a bit gob smacked to tell the truth. I'm a massive QPR fan; I used to come
over here all the time when we were in the Premiership. My Dad is QPR through
and through and I'm sure he'll be glad he can come and watch me here now rather
than at Aldershot." Miller made his debut two weeks later
at Nottingham Forest and his home debut against Ipswich saw fans sing Miller for
England as the youngster looked embarrassed to have his name sung by the same
fans he was standing with a few months ago. Miller can play anywhere
in midfield but looks at his best in the middle. He is a good passer of the ball
and gets forward well to support the strikers. Speaking on his
own game, he told the official QPR web site “I like to drive at people with
the ball at my feet and try a few shots from outside of the area. At Aldershot
I was playing in the middle of a three in midfield, but I've played on the left
and right wings before. I've met Ian Holloway and he seems like a really genuine
guy and I'm looking forward to pushing on and repaying him for the faith he's
shown in me." Miller impressed in his early appearances for
Rangers but soon found himself on the fringes of the side and then out for two
loan spells at the start of the 2005/06 season. He was placed on the transfer
list in January 2006.
