Gavin Mahon joined QPR from Watford
in January 2008
Mahon is a defensive midfield player
who is decent on the ball and very quick into the tackle. He began
his career at Hereford where he spent two years before being spotted
by Brentford in 1998.
Mahon spent four years with Brentford
where he played 165 times for the Bees. Mahon almost won promotion
to the Championship in 2002 when they lost to Reading on the final
day of the season which saw them miss out on promotion by a single
point.
His performances that season earned
him a move to Watford where he stayed for six years. Mahon played
over two hundred games for the Hornets where he was club captain
in recent years. His main highlight at Watford came in 2006 when
he led them to promotion to the Premiership through the playoffs
and he didn't look out of place in the top division despite the
club being relegated. He almost led his side out at Wembley with
Watford getting to the Semi Final of the FA Cup.
He was deemed surplus to requirements
at Watford after a storming start to the season saw them look to
the future. He was dropped from the side in November and Watford
have failed to win at home since.
He joined QPR on the 31st December on
an emergency loan deal and made his debut a day later as a substitute
against Leicester City. His first start came days later in the FA
Cup against Chelsea. The initial loan deal was followed by a permanent
move to Loftus Road at the end of the season.
Mahon has been a regular at QPR last
season playing a holding midfield role and after Martin Rowlands
injury he was made team captain for the rest of the season.
