34. Matthew Hislop

Matthew Hislop joined QPR from Arsenal on a two-year contract in March 2005.

Hislop is an England schoolboy international who was released by Premiership Arsenal having been a regular at Under 17 and Under 19 levels for the club last year.

Matthew also enjoyed his first taste of Reserve team action this season but with competition for places at left back fierce at Highbury, Hislop opted to move on and joined QPR.

Although left back is his most comfortable position. Matthew's strength, stamina and speed allow him to also play on the left of midfield.

Like Shiminn last year was all set to be a big season for young left back Matthew Hislop. He was ear marked for being made first choice left back as the season wore on but injuries again cut short his season.

Hislop began the season on the bench but got his chance of a first team debut after an injury crisis saw him made first choice for the away game at Leicester City.

Hislop looked an excellent player in the 2-1 win. he was quick, reads the game well and looked very comfortable at first team level. He was also a decent passer of the ball who loved to get forward so it was a great shame that a bad injury mid way through the second half was the last we saw of him all season.

He did return to play in the reserves but niggly injuries meant he never really got close to the first team again and Gary Waddock placed him on the transfer list at the end of the season.

Hislop though is likely to stay at Loftus Road with a loan move more likely than a permanent transfer elsewhere. If he can ever get ft he could turn out to be an excellent player for us but I don't think we'll ever see the best of him in a blue and white hooped shirt.
