22. Arthur Gnohere

Arthur Gnohere signed for QPR on a two and a half year deal in February 2004.

Gnohere had enjoyed a successful loan spell at the club earlier in the season and seems to have made a habit of coming into the club at the time of a defensive crisis.

After Clarke Carlisle went off to the Sporting Chance clinic in September, Arthur was signed on loan to partner Dan Shittu and the pair struck up a good partnership in his first few games. Rangers were then dealt the news that Shittu would be out for two months so Arthur had a new partner in Terrell Forbes, which again worked well.

Arthur got his first goal for QPR in the LDV Game against Kidderminster but returned to Burney the next day as an injury crisis hit the club he was contracted to. Arthur had enjoyed some great times at Burnley and was named King Arthur by the Burnley fans who treated him as a cult hero.

When Dan Shittu was ruled out for nine months in January, Holloway moved quickly to try and sign the Burnley defender again but the club failed to agree personal terms with the big defender. An unnamed QPR fan then came forward to help pay the players wages and he signed a two and a half year deal which will see Burnley get £50,000 and more if the club get promoted.

Arthur is a strong central defender who is also good on the ball and can play in the middle or at left back. After a few games back at Loftus Road he set up a good partnership with Clarke Carlisle but injury to Clarke meant he was paired with Matthew Rose on the last day of the season when Rangers clinched promotion.

His lack of pace is a worry but he is a tough no nonsense defender who should be able to make the step up to the Coca Cola Championship. Sadly for Gnohere and Rangers he became the latest QPR player to do his cruiciate Knee ligament and he faces nine months out of the first team so get well soon Arthur.
