4. Richard Edghill
Richard Edghill joined QPR on a month to month contract at the end of August 2003.
He was signed as cover for Terrell Forbes who was injured and suspended at the
time.
Edghill enjoyed many highs and lows during his time at Manchester
City where he started his career. He played for many years in the Premiership
before the side fell down the divisions but he was part of the team which got
promoted back to division one. Edghill was treated badly by the Man City fans
towards the end of his time at Maine Road and after a spell at Sheffield United
he is looking to re build his career at Loftus Road.
Edghill had been
out of action for a few months after considering retiring from football but he
soon established himself in the QPR side with some impressive performances at
right back.
Edghill is a versatile player who can play on the right or
left so after impressing for the first team he signed a new deal until the end
of the season. Edghill fitted in perfectly at right back as Forbes moved into
the middle and Rangers results improved enough to send us to the top of the league.
As with so much of his career though injury hit him hard again. He was
stuck on the sidelines for a few months but returned when we needed him most.
He replaced Forbes as a second half sub at Wycombe and his assured performance
helped give Rangers the confidence to pour forward and gain a vital point.
He was mostly used as a left back during the run in after Gino Padula broke a
bone in his foot. Despite it not being his natural position he did well and helped
Rangers maintain our place in the top two.
He proved his versatility
but moving back to right back when Marcus Bignot got suspended and he had an excellent
game on the last day of the season as he helped us secure our place back in the
first division. He signed a new one year contract in the summer of 2004.
This season Edghill has played as a full back on both wings and also as a central
defender when injuries have hit the squad. He has again proved to be a useful
player to have in the squad due to his versatility and is currently attempting
to prove his worth to Ian Holloway and earn a new contract.
