Matthew Connolly joined QPR in January 2008 for a fee which could rise to £1million from Arsenal.

Matthew was captain of Arsenal's reserve team and came through the youth set up under Arsene Wenger where as you expect he developed into a very good technical player. He is good on the ball, reads the game well and looks to express himself

Connolly spent the first half of the 2007/08 season on loan at Colchester before making the move to Loftus Road.

His QPR debut came in the FA Cup against Chelsea and in the unfamiliar role of right back he kept first Scott Sinclair then Joe Cole very quiet indeed. Connolly has continued to improve with every game looking impressive at right back, left back and in central defence.

On the early evidence it looks like QPR have got a real bargain and a defender with the ability to play at the very top.
