Lee
Camp joined QPR for £300,000 from Derby County after two successful
loan spells at the club.
Back
in 2004 Rangers were without Chris Day, Nick Culkin and Jake Cole
for the trip to Hartlepool leaving the team without a recognised
goalkeeper. Holloway swooped to sign Camp and the young keeper made
an excellent start to his spell at QPR.
Camp made several excellent saves and showed great authority in
his penalty area which was great to see after spending just a few
short hours with his team mates before his debut. Camp went on to
play a major part in our promotion season with some brilliant saves
including a heroic performance at Tranmere where Rangers earned
a vital point.
Many
fans wanted Camp to make the move permanent and the club tried to
sign Camp later that summer but he was in George Burleys plans.
He was a regular for Derby in 2004/05 and was one of their best
players showing some superb form as they just missed out on promotion
losing in the playoff final.
He
fell out with the manager at Derby Phil Brown and has struggled
to win his place back ever since. He had a loan spell at Norwich
before coming back to QPR in February for a three month loan.
Camp
was outstanding and played a huge role in keeping us up and also
featured in the first game at the new Wembley when he played for
England under 21's against Italy.
He
returned to Derby before the end of the season and helped them to
win a place in the playoffs and was on the bench when they won promotion
at Wembley.
In
the summer of 2007 Camp made the move back to QPR in a £300,000
move and got his chance to be the first choice keeper at Loftus
Road. His own performances were of a high standard behind a struggling
defence and won this websites award for the best QPR player of 2007.
Camp
didn't miss a league game all season but soon faced competition
for his place with the arrival of Radek Cerny and has found first
team opportunities limited this season.
There
was a reported fall out in the summer with rumours that Flavio Briatorie
didn't rate Camp and wanted him replaced which appeared to be backed
up when Flavio himself said one of the arguments with Dowie was
over which keeper should be playing.
Camp
found himself number two in the pecking order and in search of first
team football he joined Nottingham Forest on loan where he played
well for them saving two penalties as they moved out of the bottom
three.
He
returned to QPR in January only to be made to train with the youth
team in what looked like a final slap in the face before he left
but an injury to Cerny saw Camp called upon again and he kept clean
sheets against Blackpool and reading before a disappointing performance
at his old club Nottingham Forest.
Camp's
future looks like it is away from Loftus Road but he's made a big
impression during his time at QPR and remains one of the
better keepers in the Championship.
