MONTHLY AWARDS

March 2008

Another good month for QPR with just one defeat in seven games which saw us move further away from relegation trouble but too many draws saw an end to any playoff ambitions.

The player of the month is judged from all players at the club and if more than one player has the same average rating then the number of appearances will determine which player wins the award.

The young player of the month is done the same and will be from players aged 23 and under. Goal of the month will just be my personal opinion on the best goal of the month.

March Player of the Month: Martin Rowlands

Martin Rowlands wins the March player of the month award and looks set to be named player of the year as well as his impressive form continues.

Rowlands has been at the heart of Rangers midfield throughout March and played a major role in helping the side to some good results. We started the month with a home hammering against Stoke as Rowlands ran the midfield and we ran out 3-0 winners.

It was a disappointing night at Coventry but Rowlands was one of the few players to perform well in a dull 0-0 draw. His best performance came in the win over Scunthorpe where Rowlands held his nerve to score a penalty just before half time and his all round game that day was excellent in what proved to be a impressive victory.

Rowlands wasn't alone in having a good month with Buzsacky again playing well and scoring three goals whilst Lee Camp also produced some excellent displays in goal for Rangers.

March Young Player of the Month: Matthew Connolly

Matthew Connolly edges out Mancienne and Balanta to win the March young player of the month award.

Connolly produced some excellent displays at the back and fully deserves another young player of the month award.

The youngster looked solid in central defence alongside both Hall and Stewart at different times. He reads the game well and snuffs out danger with some excellent covering tackles.

Connolly also played at left back for the tough trip to Ipswich and he did really well in that position showing he is a very versatile defender and a very good prospect for the future.

March Goal of the Month: Akos Buzsacky v Blackpool

A tough choice this month but I've gone with Buzsacky again for his goal against Blackpool just edging out three fine strikes from Mikele Leigterwood.

Here is the description of the goal from the match report on this web site.

"It took ten minutes for us to open the scoring and it was yet another very special goal from Akos Buzsacky.

The move started when Vine found Agyemang on the left and the big striker held off his man and played a nice ball to the far post where Buzsacky was waiting and he took a step back before swinging his left foot at the ball and he aimed an inch perfect lob over the keeper and into the bottom corner.

It was hard to tell if he meant it or not at first but after seeing the goal on television since it is clear he picked his spot out beautifully"
